Squealing from TV

Hi all,

Hope someone can help. When I use our Bush TV it squeals, doesn't seem to matter if it is playing from the DVD player or just normal TV. At first it did it after watching it for a while (maybe once it had warmed up) and now it seems to randomly make the noise. The TV is only about 18 months ish old and lives in our bedroom so not even the main one in the house!

Does anyone know what could be causing this/is it repairable?
Thanks

Take it back to where you bought it from and ask for it to be repaired or replaced.

  • Hubby tells me we've had it 2 yrs now and as it was purchased from a supermarket they probably won't be interested now.

If its got a tube it may be the EHT circuit causing problem, the squealing could be it arcing. Could be caused by having the set in a damp or dusty atmosphere.
    Might be wrong of course.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

If you've had it only two years then you should be entitled to having it repaired. It depends on whether you want the supermarket to uphold their legal obligations or not.

I had the same problem a few years ago. After a few days the tube went, which means i needed a new telly. It might be that.
If your logged on here all the time in a few days, i know you havnt got any telly to watch!

Just a question - can anyone else hear it?

To me all TVs make a high pitched squeeling sound, and lightbulbs amongst other things.

I thought it was tinnitus, but apparently they do let off a sound, but it can only be heard by women

We had this on our Hitachi CRT bought from TESCO. Luckily it was within the year warrenttee when it happened and we got it repaired. Think he said it would have cost £80 to £100 to repair if not in warrentee. Probably better upgrading to an LCD if you can afford to as they are quite cheap. Try get it repaired by supermarket first tho - some (ASDA) will be quite good about this...

Again, retailers screwing you over on the assumption you won't point out they're ignoring the law and your consumer rights (Sale of Goods Act, you can get repair/replacement up to six years after purchase for reasonable lifetime of product, a few years at least for a TV).

BTW is that a Pleo in your avatar?
