Renegotiating house price/survey

    Completely agree with bris. Either take the price they are offering, or tell them you want the agreed price or it goes back up for sale. I would guess the survey still valued it ok, but they say the work needs doing and if they aren't prepared to pay what they offered put it back on the market.
    Only you know how important this buyer is or isn't to you.
  • Bear in mind that the buyer has already paid £600 plus for the homebuyers report. (a mortgage valuation would not have gone into any real detail) So if you pull out they will suffer a loss!


    Also, my experience is that surveyors try and justify the extra money the buyer has paid for the homebuyers report, by writing pages of minor issues about the property which mostly are to be expected of a property of a certain age.


    Personally I would ask to see the report, even if you offer to go and view it at their home so that you cannot copy it. Although any survey is done for the original applicant, so no one else could use it for mortgage purposes.


    If you do ditch this buyer, it would be interesting to see if the next surveyor picks up the same issues.

    This is why I always get a basic lender valuation and my own private survey done seperately, no hassle with the lender
    I find that in older houses something about the roof is often picked up by the surveyor even though they have been standing without problems for 50 - 100 years. As some have pointed out you can request a copy or at least a snippet but whether they give it to you is another matter, if they want you to pay you would think they would at least give the snippet. Personally I would play their game just to find out what the surveyor said.
