Can a case be opened after a full refund?

As per the heading, if I refund a buyer in full can they subsequently open a case against me?
I had a buyer contact me to tell me I had sent them the wrong item, their message was very irate, I took what they said at face value and gave them a full refund, I offered as a good will gesture to send the item anyway, it was a low priced item so I wasn't too bothered, I just wanted to keep them happy, looking back at their feedback now and reading between the lines I get the impression this is not the first time they have claimed this and they have left a lot of negatives and neutrals.
I am just a bit worried that no matter what I do I am going to get a case opened against me.

No a case cannot be opened if you refunded via the original transaction.0

The above is incorrect. An ebay case can be opened after a full refund, I know because I've had two of them opened after a full refund of the original transactions. And yes, it's possible to get TWO refunds as well (happened to me).0

The first refund comes from the paypal transaction and the second refund comes from ebay who then add the cost of the refund onto your next ebay invoice. All thanks to ebay's fantastic new case system!0
