Layby Parking

I'm guessing the answer to this is obvious, but I have only recently started driving and don't want to make any stupid mistakes.
I am wondering if it's OK to park in the layby shown here: http://goo.gl/maps/EApzy.
To the left is a school, and I have only seen cars parked here when parents are picking up their children. The only signs around it are those restricting stopping on the yellow 'School Keep Clear' lines.
Is it OK to park here during the day? Those I have asked have said "ehh, it should be OK I think!", so I'd like to find out the actual answer.

Looks ok to me. Ask at the local police station if you're worried. I have done that when I wasn't sure.0

Thanks, both of you.
I tried contacting the local council office, but got no response. Will try the station as well.0 -
You could park on the other side of the road if you wanted. There are no parking restrictions as far as can be seen. Causing an obstruction may be another matter, but parking on the side of the road (on the carriageway) is hardly a new thing.0

The road is quite narrow so I wouldn't dare park on the other side. A bus route, too.
Could the school argue that the layby is only for parents and visitors? On their website they direct visitors there, as well as car parks nearby, but there are no signs saying it's restricted to them.0 -
Anyone?
I called the station who advised me to call the council. Called the council who advised to contact the school. Called the school and they advised it's for "pick up and drop off only....but there are no restrictions as such", which makes absolutely no sense to me. Not only do they direct visitors to park there, but are telling me it's pick up and drop off only and there are no restrictions!
I'm just wondering where I would stand if I did park there and they said it's either for visitors only or pick up and drop off only?0 -
There are no lines so there is no restriction. The road has nothing to do with the school as to who uses the layby.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0

Thanks, Tilt.
Just wanted to know if I'd have a leg to stand on should they get in touch.0
