Best way to refund without incurring a defect?

I just received an item back today which had been posted on 11th November to Bulgaria. What is the best way to refund the buyer, I don't want a defect!

  • Can you refund after 60 days?

I'd leave it on the shelf until they get in touch.

They have been in touch regularly, an odd customer, his first Ebay purchase - he told me that by the time he went to his local Post Office in Bulgaria to pick up the item it had been sent back. He sends me a message every now and then to see if I have received it!

I guess I have lost my FVF and postage then, best way to refund must be via Paypal.

Send them a Payment request for the postal cost & resend it back to them, as you cannot refund the payment.

You are right, did not realise that I would not be able to refund via Paypal either. I suppose I could send him the money as a gift payment.

What is a 'defect'? I looked idly at my 'Seller dashboard' and was surprised to find I was listed as having one defect. But I have 100% positive feedback, how do I find out what this defect was?

Don't get me started on defects! You should be able to see in your dashboard what it was for, it could be any of the following:

Low detailed seller ratings for item as described
Opened cases for items not as described
Return requests: items not as described
    Postage and delivery
Low detailed seller ratings for postage time
    Requests: items not received
    Neutral or negative feedback
Neutral or negative feedback from buyers
    Canceled transactions
    Transactions you canceled

The dashboard lists all the possible reasons for a defect, each followed by a dash. Above the column of dashes, it says, 'You'll see your data for these areas once you have 5 detailed seller ratings'.

You can refund via Paypal, but as it's over 60 days you have to ring them. They can refund it.
