Accused of fly tipping in Scotland and charged £200

that assumes the flies stay still long enough to be tipped. Often they are gone before you can get your wallet out.0

Not 'obvious it was a mistake' at all. Of all the stuff he was moving how surprisingly it was the bag of rubbish he 'mistakenly' left on his old street
Actually he took the rubbish to his new flat to take to the tip with his other unwanted items. My nephew is as honest as the day is long and you're unpleasant cynicism is of new help to anyone.0 -
How did this solitary black bag come to be lying in the street?
All the other stuff was successfully loaded and transferred into the new flat, what made him miss this one thing that just happened to be full of rubbish?0 -
Thanks to everyone who gave helpful comments. I appreciate you taking time to reply. I have no time for flytipping and understand that there needs to be a fine. I just think the amount excessive. People get charged less for speeding and risking people's lives. As JohnyB mentioned I would have thought that councils would have some discretion. He took the option to go to court initially as he could not afford to pay the fine but he asked me if I thought he had done the right thing. I think if the court are likely to increase the fine he might be better to cut his loses and ask if he can pay in installments.0

That's fine, his issue is that probably everybody that gets a fine also says it was a genuine mistake. I agree £200 is a lot and as you say for a genuine mistake is hard to swallow. However where I live all I know is that somehow lots of black bags just sit on the street and in the mornings there is rubbish everywhere. For the council to decide whose bags were there due to somebody forgetting it when moving and whose bags are there due to them purposefully leaving them on the road is impossible. Therefore it has to be a blanket fine.0 -

Because he was distracted. I think it is time to back out of this blog as it seems to have turned into a witch hunt.0 -
Sometimes we make mistakes (I do.. increasingly... getting on being an OaP..)
It would be nice is someone else picked up the tab for all our mistakes: But life doesn't work like that.. my mistake, I pay:
There are two sorts of people in this life...
a) Those who accept responsibility for what they do, sort out any consequences, move on & enjoy life...
ii) Those who always are convinced that it is "someone else's fault" and that someone else will pay....
3) Those who can't count...
