Ooh thanks for the warning - I only just checked my usage early last week and edf was the best for me. Looks like I should check again!
....actually having re-read my bills it's really hard to see what tarriff I'm on. I thought I was on-line dual fuel but neither gas nor electric bills say that. Why do they make it so hard?0 -

That's interesting. I'm also on the Online V3 tariff and my letter quotes the following:-
First 1465 KWh used each quarter now ex vat 2.870 and vat inc 3.014
all other units ex vat 2.006 and vat inc 2.106
I suppose the difference is because of our regional location; I'm in the East Midlands. Even so, a 20% increase is a bit of a bummer!
I've just done a few checks on switching websites, but it still doesn't look as though I can make a saving (well, about £5 a year isn't worth the hassle).

There have been loads of posts in the past about early EDF versions of their on-line tariff(particulary those that EDF took over from firms like London Energy)
For some reason the 'escaped' most of the price rises in late 2005 and 2006 and were an absolute bargain - for those lucky enough to have retained them.
The new prices still seem pretty competitive though?0 -
I also noticed (Aug 4th) the price rise on my latest EDF bill and wondered when this increase had taken place. I rang EDF and was told that the Online V3 Tariff increase took place on August 1st. I checked EDF's Terms & Conditions and noticed that under their T&Cs that if EDF raise their prices then they have to tell you in writing within 10 days. As I hadn't yet heard from EDF in writing and wanted to know what action I could take in the event of not getting written notification within 10 days as per EDF's T&Cs I rang Energywatch only to be told that there was nothing a customer could do if EDF didn't let their customers know within 10 days of any price rise. I suggested to the Energywatch "adviser" that surely this was breaking their own rules only to be told.....rules were meant to be broken!!!!!!! So next time you are moved to ring Energywatch for advice as to whether the energy company you are with may have broken the rules remember that according to Energywatch..rules are meant to be broken. But of course customers must obey the rules! The actual price rise took place on July 27th as per the letter I have now received!

Got the same letter last Friday. Norweb prices now:
First 1465 kWh/quarter 2.975p ex, 3.019p incl. VAT (17% increase)
following kWhs 1.996 ex, 2.096p incl. VAT (10% increase)
Had been too lazy to switch while watching eDf raise their electricity prices since the cheap gas still made the overall deal only a few percent more expensive than the alternatives, but now I will make a £100 saving per year as a dual fuel customer by switching to Scottish Energy -- so the price hike has triggered me to switch.
Whilst the price still looks competitive on paper for gas, you need to look at the dual fuel effect and, at least in my region, their electricity prices are very uncompetitive.0 -
I got the same letter this morning
1st 1465 kwh/quarter 3.341p ex, 3.508 inc vat
followed by 2.199p ex, 2.309p in vat.
Seems like West Yorkshire is one of dearest. Time to switch I think.0 -

Scottish Energy, do you have a web link ? as I'm unsure what company your referring to, what are the tariffs or have you used one of the comparison sites when calculating the £100 saving. Any further information would be appreciated.:rolleyes:0 -
If I understand the posts above correctly you are saying that EDF on-line now vary their gas prices by region as well as electricity?
I believe that previously EDF charged a standard price for gas across the country; like BG.
If that is so, it seems that practice is being adopted by several companies.0 -
Cardew: Only on the basis of the varying prices quoted by folks in this thread; I previously had the same perception as you.If I understand the posts above correctly you are saying that EDF on-line now vary their gas prices by region as well as electricity?
Malamute: Based on my consumption, using Moneysupermarket* as quoted in Martin's article, I would pay a bit more for my gas using Scottish Power (sorry for the typo in previous post) but a lot less for my electricity and with the dual fuel discount and £30 cashback I am £105/yr better off with Scottish Power Online Energy Saver 4 Monthly Direct Debit. There are other even better deals; I picked Scottish Power as a personal preference and based on positive customer service feedback.Scottish Energy, do you have a web link ? as I'm unsure what company your referring to, what are the tariffs or have you used one of the comparison sites when calculating the £100 saving. Just did some quick maths -- UK wholesale gas prices have dropped at least 50% since early 2006 (I used a figure of 65p/therm vs. 33 today, which is being kind to the gas companies). In the same period, eDF dual fuel gas price in my region has increased by 40% (for the first tier of kWhs/quarter) and 32% (for subsequent kWhs).
OFGEM, where are you?
Slightly off topic: does anyone know of a reliable source of current and historical wholesale gas prices?0
