you wouldn't be taxed on earnings of £1040

yes, I know this. But isn't the esa taxable along with any salary already received in the tax year?
So is permitted work 104 pw before or after tax?0 -
I saw that link but I just thought the after tax rule was a little peculiar, so I began to doubt its veracity! Has anyone had any experience of this? What if the tax office get your tax/ni calculations wrong? I will phone them tomorrow to double check.0

so, the call centre for the ESA, being their usual inept selves, told me that it was 104 before tax.
I asked for a call back from the actual advisers, and they told me it was AFTER tax, or on any money I actually received.
I asked why the people answering the phones gave me the incorrect advice and he said 'oh they're just the call centre'.
Lesson of the day - always ask for a call back from the ESA!0
