Soft credit Search

Hi,

Not sure if anyone knows but What information does a soft credit search show? Ie insurance companies or credit card/bank accounts you are already in. Does it show all the same things that a hard one does?

Ie accounts, name address, DOB, any defaults/court information, who you have agreements with Or just the score?

It depends who's making the search, and what information they provide in return (ie under the principles of reciprocity).
  • Thanks ....Basically I had a c/card and they reduced the credit to £350, I wasn't bothered as such and assumed it was as I had a CCJ, I would assume looking into it that they must of found out about CCJ via a soft search as per I allowed them by having the account....however 6 years down the line, good report nothing on there, used and paid the card each month as small amount, now if I want to obtain a loan with same company or even bigger a mortgage would they of seen it was a ccj and recorded it, that's why the reduced card or was it bad score so they decided to, not sure if anyone would know, just interesting to know how much information these soft searches give out. There was no debt with the CC company.
  • I have searched and looked on lots of pages but never found anything out or clarity of what actual information they can see. I know it doesn't affect your credit score and I know you even get companies that you don't even know give you promotional offers but what information are they actually seeing?!

Even though the CCJ has fallen off your report, you can't guarantee that they've removed that information from their own records.

Card providers take a monthly feed from the CRAs, and use this to manage your account. This is in addition to any formal soft search they make. However, anyone searching your file (even insurance companies, letting agents, banks (for current accounts), etc) will see the CCJ...because it's 'public information'.

Do they? And what information is on it?
