flexible grout?

Options
my bathroom floor is tiled. the same tiles are in the en-suite and are fine but the bathroom ones the grout keeps cracking and breaking up in places. i realise the floor must be flexing slightly. no tiles have cracked but i have re-grouted it twice and it is cracking up again.
is there such a thing as flexible grout that would absorb these minor movements without breaking up?
the grout is a pale grey colour (if that is pertinent?).
many thanks.

yes there is, just search for exactly that - flexible grout, sold in most places, how well it will work will depend on how much the floor is flexing, it still won't tolerate a great deal. I've used BAL superflex with good results when I had same problem in our toilet.
  • many thanks for reply reece.
will look into your suggestion re the BAL superflex.

You can also add pva to the grout mixture to increase its flexibility
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.
  • Many thanks for the tip phill.

Your joking? I've used all the main brands over the years and have never heard of this on any of the manufactures literature . Bal used to do a admix GT1 and others have latex additives but PVA is a bonding agent

    BAL admix is PVA.

Pva is a bonding agent, but it retains flexibility.

Manufacturers wont tell you about ut ad they want you to buy their additives.

  • thanks for info phill.
how much pva (as i have the right colour grout in powder form in my garage) would i need to mix into a cereal bowl sized quantity of made up grout? An egg cup full?

I would take professional advice on this one , quote taken from tiler forum and replied by BAL. PVA reactivates with water and you want to mix with grout!! Just buy a flexible grout or sort the underlying issues of substrate movement

    Tastes better though.

    Good afternoon Jon.

The answer to your question is No.

BAL Admix GT1 is in basic terms an aqueous Co-polymer based on Ethylene/Vinyl Acetate.

    Cheers
