Hi,

I will be selling bulk varied to about 30 different items things on ebay within few months and though about this ebay stores idea. What's so good about it and why it will help me?

Ebay shops give you the opportunity to list for longer than the 10 days on a normal auction, it is also cheaper per item that listing without a shop.

However, the basic shop has a minimum monthly charge of £6 on top of listing and final value fees. Items in shop are not automatically seen when browsing straight auctions, this is a complicated area though and I would strongly suggest you go through all the shop details on the ebay help menu.

Anyone can open a shop as long as they have a positive feedback score of 10 or more, or have a rating of 5 or more and will enable payupal on all their items.

I was also wondering whether it would be worth my while opening a shop but i guess i gotta sit down and look at the pro's and cons of it so that i can see if the £6 a month will be re-coup from the items for sale within it but like you say you still need to have live auctions as that is the only way you have the chance of people visiting your shop....

Does anyone else have a shop and have any thoughts????

    cheers

  • I have a shop but it has very limited use because your items 'search' in a limited way eg...some one keys in 'mickey mouse clock' they will be shown all the auction clocks and then in a box underneath they will see 'in other ebay areas......' and that will take them eventually to your clock, so they may have found what they were looking for before they get to yours.
The one advantage is if you sell 'add ons' so in your auction site you can sell say...'large size stapler' and then on the page you would direct them to the stapler refils that you have in your shop....so if you can link things it's great because this listing is dead cheap and lasts for weeks but your shop will be overlooked unless you can MAKE people look at it

OK - confused by the above re: searches!!!

The impression I got was that if I opened a shop anything I listed normally (1 to 10 days listing) would appear in my shop and also show up in normal eBay searches, but anything I listed using 30 or 90 day listings wouldn't show up in normal searches - only in my shop. Is this not the case??

Yes, you are right - taking the example of the mickey mouse clock again, if you had it either or auction or fixed price for a normal listing of up to 10 days then it would show up on a search with all the other clocks.

If you had it a fixed price on a long term listing ie 'in your shop' then the prospective buyer would only see your clock if he looked at all the bottom of the page of everyone elses' clocks to see the link called 'in other ebay areas'. If they click on that they would see all the clocks in shops including yours....only a keen to buy experienced ebay would bother to look here

So with the shops search being so limited is it worth it ? I also looked at the basic package and thought it was limited and the next package up looked better , about £ 26 from my poor memory !

I think that it would only make sense if you could sell lots of add-ons that are pointless to auction....the sellers that sell packaging materials are an example - they put 1 or 2 things on the quick auction or fixed price listings then tempt you in to see the packing tape and labels etc. I rarely use my shop as such but I don't want to let it go because I named the shop with a name (it was in inspired moment and I LOVE my shop name) that I might one day turn into a proper website shop and if I let the shop go it might get used by someone else...daft isn't it!
