Fat32 torment

Hi, I bought a new HP laptop back in July and I could not get on with the 8.1 so I left it until I could get help, but it just sat there for a long time until I could spend time on my own with it, I bought the 8.1 for Dummies, but as soon as I switched it on a warning came up that said Fat32 trojen. I have AVG free on my very old laptop, but as this one is new I was going to buy the Full AVG, now I can't get online to do that because of the trogen.

Is there any way I can delete the trojen without going online such as downloading the AVG programme onto a USB using my old Acer laptop and then install it on my new laptop, or is it possible to transfer it from my old laptop.
Thanking you Drinda

bootable linux cd/isb, or winPE and run a web a/v or install one

Also various a/v companies at one time had free iso to download. Try avira and bitdefender

You can use a working PC to download a rescue image, copy it to the USB (using a special program to make the USB device bootable), and then boot the affected PC using the USB device.

The Avast Rescue Disc has worked really well for me in the past (although you'll need to install Avast Free Antivirus on your working machine first):

Alternatively, the Avira rescue image looks like it can be downloaded without needing the antivirus installed:

If the issue is fat32.exe then this thread suggests that Malwarebytes will get rid of it.

What exactly flashed this message ?

Sounds like you have encounted something but another thing to consider is where it came from ? Did you plug any usb sticks in your 8.1 machine that have been in your Acer ?

Researching W32/Rbot-EL , it appears to be quite an old virus and is in fact a worm, did you have any other computers on at the same time connected to the wireless network ?

It may be that windows defender (part of Win 8) blocked an attempted worm attack.

I agree. AVs hunt for viruses which are different to trojans and worms. You might want to run Malwarebytesroot kit program too.

Thank you for your replies and I will give Malwarebytes a try when the house is quiet later today. It said fat32 trojen and no I did not have any other machine in use, but my son had visited me earlier and as I could not get outlook to work he downloaded incredmail and that is the only thing that could have caused it.
    Thanks again Drinda.
