win 8.1 update. pc now no life

I upgraded to win 8.1, the pc said it had to restart.
It shut down alright, but it won't start again, it turns on and the keyboard and mouse light up, but no display onthe monitor.

I've changed the monitor, just in case, but its not that.

I am lost, any ideas of what I could try?

Well, I took it apart, vacuumed it out and checked all the connections and itcame up on the screen!
Started into windows repair tool and I managed to get it to do a system restore to just before the update.

Its doing it now, I'm still unsure of what happened, or indeed why it came back.

It was probably shutting itself down because of overheating if cleaning restored it. Be careful with vacuuming inside, the static generated at the nozzle of the cleaner can cause damage - especially to RAM. I know, because I have done it!
