Unreasonable rent increase

My landlord has told me that he is increasing my rent by £75 a month because he has had it reassessed. There is no way I can find this amount extra each month. Do I have any rights or do I just have to move at my own expense?
I have an Assured Shorthold Tenancy but the agreement does not discuss maximum rent increases.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks

This should be on the Housing Buying Renting Selling Board. There will be loads of appropriate advice there, maybe the mods could move it.
This current thread covers similar issues:

Good advice from harrys dad, and I'll add that when you do repost include more information, in particular how much you are paying now - £75 on a £1500 rent might be reasonable, but on a £500 rent might not.0

It differs by area, you need to look into the going rate for your property in your area. There is a tribunal for rent increases in the private sector you can appeal to, see Shelter for details.0

Are you saying he's increasing it at the end of your current agreement or trying to increase it now?You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0

Without full figures it's difficult to know whether this rise is unreasonable.
A friend of mine was complaining in the pub a few weeks ago because his rented house had been sold and the rent had been put up by 600%. It sounded ridiculous until we discovered he had only been paying £100 a month for a three bedroom terrace....0 -
Thanks for the responses. I will go with the useful advice that has been given me.
Thanks a lot
