    We just bought our house for £210,500. We had approx £42,000 set aside:
    - £33,000 went on deposit;
    - £1,710 stamp duty;
    - £1,020 solicitor fees (including searches)
    - £495 mortgage fee
    - £665 homebuyers survey
    - £350 removals

    We're dure to get about £650 in cash back from the mortgage which leaves us about £5,000 left for DIY, new furniture, appliances, carpet etc.

    Stamp duty at £150k purchase price will be £500. Payable on completion - you normally pay it to your solicitor a few days before completion, along with any additional deposit that you didn't pay on exchange and your solicitor's bill.
  • I've spent about 9k, had some good luck in cheap furniture and appliances from friends and family, some less good luck in terms of electrical work and locksmithing needed, and boiler packing up at xmas.

    2160 stamp duty
    1650 solicitors fees and searches
    1200 survey and mortgage fees to the bank and broker
    1000 on movers, plumbers, electricians
    1500 on appliances and furniture
    1600 new boiler
