2 for 1 vouchers for London attractions, or buy in advance?

Hi - I hope I've found the right thread for my question. I'm planning to visit London for a couple of days this April with my husband and daughter (12) and since we're going on the train, I've found some great 2 for 1 vouchers to save us money on attraction tickets. But I'm wondering now if it might be better to buy the tickets at normal price online instead, because I can envision scenarios where we show up on the day to purchase tickets and are told they've been sold out. I didn't have any problems using a voucher at London Sea Life a few years back, but I'm worried about getting into other places.

We particularly would like to see the Sherlock Holmes exhibit at the London Museum, and the Tower of London. I have 2 for 1 vouchers for these, plus another for the mummies special exhibit at the British Museum. I know for a fact that they limit the number of people allowed into those kinds of exhibits; they give you a time slot. That one isn't as important to us as the first two though, as there's a whole free museum there to see anyway.

Anyone have any experience with this? Thank you.

We've used these successfully in the past for British Museum special exhibits - what you need to do is phone up to book the tickets for a specific timeslot (it gives the number on the link http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/british-museum-ancient-lives-new-discoveries-exhibition) and say that you want to use the 2-4-1 train offer. They'll then take the reduced payment for the tickets and arrange for you to collect them at the museum on the day, at which point you'll need to give them the 2-4-1 voucher and show the train tickets.

I can't comment on the Sherlock Holmes exhibition, but for the Tower I don't think you can book in advance - you just turn up, pay on the gate and go straight in.

I'd also recommend the 2-4-1 tickets to use the Thames clippers all day - great fun !

Yes, I think in the past the instructions for The BM special exhibitions must have been more explicit - it doesn't make it at all clear, does it ?
