OBD code

Hi all,

Yesterday, I used an OBD reader on my car because the engine light is on. The reader said "Cylinder 2 injector circuit high". (code P0265)

I've tried googling this to find out the possible repair costs, but other people who have had this code seem to have experienced other problems with their car e.g. loss of power. My car has no other symptoms of a problem apart from the light being on - it drives fine.

Does anyone have any idea what might need fixing on the car and how much it might cost? It's a peugeot 206.

  • Codes are red-herrings sometimes, never take one as gospel, there are too many garages around rushing to change parts because of a code and charging an absolute fortune for work that frankly isn't required.

First instance, if you have no driveability issues reset the code and see what happens.

The light goes off occasionally on its own, then eventually comes back on. Will the same not just happen if I reset the code?

Will be worth clearing the code and running it again, it may be more of a historical fault.

Most cars store faults for a certain number of cycles (ie on/off) so when you haven't had a fault for X times then the light will go off.

Looking on the pug forums people are saying coilpack, it may be worth swapping #2 over with another one to see if the fault follows (i'm guessing its a simple job).

Other people are talking about the wiring harness for the injectors, which would explain an fault that's enough to upset the computer and not enough to upset the engine.
  • Really nice. Well done.

I'm getting the MOT done in a couple of weeks so I might let them know about the code and see if they can sort it. The light used to only come on occasionally but lately it's been on more than it's been off so I'm not sure if that means it's getting worse. My ability to do any kind of car tinkering is non existent so I think I'll leave it up to the garage.

    Cheers for the advice :)

Intermittent faults can be a nightmare, it does sound like its getting worse, so in theory easier to fault find, although sometimes its better going to a specialist electrician who has a lot more in depth diagnostic equipment.

The coilpack (not individual pencil coils that you can swap around!) will usually be either marked Sagem or Bosch. If its the former, throw it away and fit the latter.

My mistake, I'd presumed they were the pencil type ones.
