Is a Critical Illness or Lifestyle Plant the same as PPI?

Hi everyone this is my 1st post. I've been inspired by many of you to consider challenging the validity of a policy I took out in 2003. It was an Allied Dunbar Critical Illness Plan now Zurich Lifestyle Plan. I honestly don't know how I got talked into paying this plan for 10 years, much of which I was self employed for. I'm wondering if this policy would be the the same as PPI?
Any help would be much appreciated by this newbie.

Given that it was not associated with a loan (presumably, else you've have said so) then no it's not PPI
And it's entirely possible it would have paid out in the event of critical illness, self employed or no. It might not have had unemployment cover, true, but they are different things0 -

Self employment is a very good reason for taking one out. However, employment status is irrelevant to CI cover.I'm wondering if this policy would be the the same as PPI?
No. its critical illness cover. Not PPI.Any help would be much appreciated by this newbie.
Forget it. you are looking for a complaint where you dont appear to have one and mixing up product types in the process.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). It's not entirely possible. It's a certainty. Self-employment or otherwise has no bearing whatsoever on a payout under a critical illness policy.0 -
Just to clarify - a Critical Illness policy pays out a lump sum should you suffer a Critical Illness such as cancer, heart attack or stroke, your policy document will list the conditions covered. Your employment status is not relevant nor is any sick pay through work, the policy pays out on diagnosis irrespective of whether you have to take time off work or not.
If you no longer want the cover you could always cancel the policy but then you might regret doing so down the line if you did suffer a critical illness0 -

Someone posted in the insurance forum a few weeks back that they were diagnosed with a critical illness shortly after cancelling a CI policy.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
