O/S Daily Sunday 15th February 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, no frost just looks dreary damp and dreich.

DH and I enjoying first peaceful cuppas of the day – woke up then couldn’t get back to sleep. Both boys still fast asleep in their pits.

Dinner last night was cheese and biscuits for me, DH didn’t have anything, not surprising after his lunch, he had beer battered cod (which resembled the size of a whale on the plate) chips and mushy peas and I had salmon fillet, new potatoes, asparagus and hollandaise sauce – was all beautifully cooked and very nice. Our friends who we went out with enjoyed their meals and their day, we went from the pub at lunchtime to a caravan event and thoroughly enjoyed our time there and was made very welcome. We got home just after 7pm so was a full day.

We have a joint of pork for lunch today, prepped it last night, so got it into the roasting dish, covered the bottom and sides with foil, then dried the rind, and scored it, then salted it and left that bit open in the fridge overnight, it dries out this way so makes the best crackling, will put a little oil on it before it goes in to the oven. I’ll be doing the normal trimmings with it, roasties, mash, carrots, broccoli, cauli in cheese sauce, green beans, peas, Yorkshires and gravy. I’ll also get the pack ups done for tomorrow so I get a chilled afternoon.

    Have peaceful Sundays everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning all. Another miserable and dismal day here, with some fog thrown in for good measure. I just long for some warm sun on my face. It's been the longest winter.

Mr TA has his second monthly injection on the 24th and then we plan on having a few days away if he suffers no side effects again. We feel we deserve a break somewhere nice. Probably the Lake District as I have a couple of hotels in mind where we have stayed before. Just hope the beginning of March brings some better weather with it.

On paper (but that can change with one phone call from DD!!) we should have a day to ourselves today to just do what we want! So plan on being very lazy for a change! I have a sewing job to tackle if I get bored! My DD's friend passed on a chiffon type tunic to her as she didn't like the floaty, draping sleeves. When DD tried it on she didn't like the sleeves either! So it's now been passed on to me and I am hoping I can do something with the sleeves as I love the style and pattern of the tunic itself. (French navy with little white birds on it, really pretty)

Have a good day all. Take care whatever you are doing xx

  • Good morning all,

Thank you nmic for starting today's thread.

TA a few days away is something to look forward to, hope the weather will be kind to you.

It is a dull and dreary day so far here, but should liven up later. The three grandchildren and boyfriend of elder DGD are coming for tea tonight. DGS will be 18 later this week so I thought we would have a special tea for him as I am sure he will be out with his mates on the day. It is Himself's birthday the day before so a double celebration (although he will be 71, not 18, he wishes :))

It should be a good afternoon, with much chatter and exchanging of presents and whatever they don't eat they get to take home. They like pizzas and chicken strips and wedges and we have a big chocolate birthday cake as well.

I Hope everyone has a good day whatever you are doing.

    Take care

I hope you both manage to get a break and have a nice relaxing time as it will do you both good.

This damp dull weather seems to be a dampener on everyone's spirits. Can't wait for Spring!! Even a glimpse of blue sky would cheer us all up.

Woke up early so made DH a big breakfast and huge mug of tea.
Having a mug of tea myself while pottering on here.

Unloaded dishwasher and have chicken from allidees which I got on Friday evening while introducing DD to its delights ;)
Soaked dried peas last night and plan on roast potatoes, broccoli and carrots Julienne with small yorkies.

Finally finished all six of DD's seat covers and need to pin up two large slabs of foam with the same fabric to make window seats.

If I can rouse myself will go to local supermarket after lunch and see if there are any YS deals that can be slammed in the freezer. DH really like home made naan bread which is soft for him to eat so might get yoghurt and try to find my recipe to make it tonight and have it as a pizza type dish or with vegetable tomatoey medley
(otherwise as all bunged in pan and simmered with any herbs etc I can find. ) ;)

    Hugs to all

  • Morning All

I had a good nights sleep for a change! I was out with cousins yesterday to some charity shops and a big antique place, was nice to have a mooch about. Had a roast chicken dinner last night which was lovely.

Off to Scotland V Wales rugby at Murrayfield later so no proper dinners here, I am just making pancakes for everyone when they get up.

Enjoy your Sunday, take care. XX
  • Good Morning all ,blooming damp weather is horrible ,I woke up with my joints feeling as though set in concrete(I have osteo-arthritis and my bones don't like the damp much ) But its not too cold at least just grey, misty and grotty looking . Roll on the spring another month, with luck, and we should be feeling brighter at least.Plus the clocks will change which always makes a difference.
Eldest DD is due shortly for her coffee and scrambled eggs and catch up natter :) a weekly sunday morning thing where I get to spoil her a bit, and she gets to relax and switch off from her busy life for an hour :):):)
Then this afternoon I go to youngest DDs for scrabble and dinner this evening. That's my normal Sunday schedule :):):)
I make knock up some cakes to take with me as my DGS always like a hm cake and some melting moments biscuits. Its half -term this week so we will be looking to see whats available to do for free if possible :):):) as I look after them during the holidays The youngest will want to cook as he loves doing that not too sure about the other two but they are quite amenable to doing anything really. All depends on the weather We are all going off to Norwich for the day next Saturday to see DGS Ben and take him a 'Ben-box' full of odds and ends from the cupboard to get him through until the end of term at Easter.
DD,her OH, three boys, myself plus the two dogs all pile into my car and we make a day of it.We'll probably take him to the nice pub we went to and feed him up :):) then we have a good mooch around the town.Hopefully it will be dry and not too cold. He really is enjoying Uni and its done him good and made him so grown up.
Well time to get a wriggle on plus the coffee pot as eldest DD will soon be here
have a good day every one whatever you are doing

  • Good Morning everyone, we actually have some sunshine this morning and a milky blue sky and it's surprising how much lighter it makes my mood so I'll second 'Roll on Spring'.

CAMELOT Oh how I envy you your trip to Murrayfield, wave at the cameras we'll be watching the match and will wave back. I enjoyed the England Italy game yesterday but not so much the France Ireland game, not so dynamic and not as entertaining to watch. Nothing much planned here today but if this dry and sunny patch lasts through the day I might suggest having some tidy up time in the garden and a sort out on the patio as things get popped outside the back door for sorting out and then aren't!

Have yourselves a nice Sunday everyone, Lyn xxx.

    Morning everyone.

What a glorious morning here, the sun is shining its rays out everywhere though it's still a little chilly. Think we are thawing out. There are loads of snowdrops blooming away and I have the beginnings of crocus and daffs peeking above the ground.

Plans for today will be totally whimsical. Late last night my nephew and I arranged a trip to London in May, all over iMessage. He booked tickets for Matilda and now I have to seek out a suitable hotel. Excited about that.

Hope everyone's gets to enjoy a good Sunday.

    Morning all

Its actually a beautiful day here bright sunshine and a good breeze have some towels in the wm which I will get on the line for a while.

OH gone to the boot sale so all peaceful here for the moment, just having a cuppa.

I am ashamed to say that when my dad died I was 90% of the way through decorating my bedroom and I completely lost heart with it and have not touched it since, I was laying there this morning looking round and have decided to get going on it again, there is not too much to do,just the skirting and architraves to under coat then paint and a few bits of emulsion to touch up, then the paper to hang, I am going to start on the painting today hopefully finish next week (by the time it dried between coats) then get our friend in to hang the paper, its time it was done !

Did not get a bit of beef for dinner s got two chicken breast's out instead which I will do something with.

Went up to see mums little house yesterday which is being renovated, its really coming on now and will look stunning once finished, I am so pleased for her for the first time in her life she has a bit of money to be able to
treat herself to some new things it really is a lovely little place.

Right better get on have good days all xx
