Hi all,
Well a couple of weeks ago my electric single oven died a death.
Since then I've had 2 separate ovens which I've ended up returning as neither are the correct, or safe dimensions to fit our recess.
For some reason our recess is just 545-550mm. We had an old "Cata" one from B&Q but I can't find the same unit and frankly it died within 12-18mths anyway! The problem is that most units come in a depth of around 550mm to 580mm, which either doesn't fit at all, or doesn't fit safely with a gap between it and the wall.
I have a Gas hob with and electric ignition for it so there is a wire back there too.
I'm no electrician but I'm quite sure that the gap is there for a reason and to allow ventilation so I don't want to ignore it (unless somebody here tells me otherwise).
Does anyone have any ideas?
I did find this Bosch oven, which, whilst pricey might just have fit depth wise. The issue however is that it requires a fixed socket, and we have no more space on our circuit box (assuming I need to have to have one).
I'm really in dire straits as I haven't had an oven now for going on 3 weeks. I work away from home a lot but my family don't.
Any help as to where to find shallow electric ovens, on whether it would be safe to get a deeper one with less gap, or anything at all, would be appreciated.
Thanks again.

I know they are not the most popular brand on here, but some of the Lamona single ovens come within your depth parameters.

Thanks for your reply.
I'm not sure that you're correct however. The specs state this is a 547mm deep appliance.
I'm assuming that you have some knowledge in this area. Does there need to be a gap between the back of the oven and the wall to which it's nearest (rear)? If this is the case, then it would almost zero gap.
There is the cut out in our recess, but the total gap is 550mm deep, which means that in order to leave the required 30-40mm (as stated in many oven manuals) for ventilation, I'd have to have a 510mm deep oven max.
Am I talking out of my backside or does this make sense?0 -
Hi
Our oven died a few years ago, I'm on my second compact halogen over now, takes a while to get used to it, but I love it now.
Has only been the 2 of us to cook for, but always seems to be plenty of room left.
Have to say though, when I'm debt free, I will be looking for a new oven!Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

Thanks for that but it doesn't really help me.
Can somebody please give some concrete advice around potential ovens and the gaps required?0 -
I have a similar problem and asked a kitchen design company to look into this for me. They were unsuccessful.0

Look at the Moffat range (used to be available in Wickes) but also here

The gap required should be specified in the manual.0

I would suggest going into currys and making them earn their moneyHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Yeah that's been a fun process ..they didn't help. I ended up with a Cooke & Lewis oven...which will probably suck after a few months.0
