i took some cash out over the counter on Monday and it's still not been debited from my account ( abbey )
I thought cash was normally instant but i've checked online every day and it's still there.
Does anyone know how lond it usually takes and what i should do about it?

Have you tried 'phoning them to ask?
I've a similar thing at the moment with a cheque used for an Amazon purchase a month ago. Amazon say they've been paid and I received the goods soon after sending the cheque, but it's not been presented to the bank (Natwest) for debit? Problem is the money to cover it is in the account in readiness and earning a massive 0.1%!! Yes, I will 'phone the bank next week. Just wondering now if some poor soul has had their account debited?0 -
well no, i'm not going to volunteer the information to them. if they've made the mistake then that's there fault.
i'm just wondering how long to leave it there before i consider spending it!!0 -
It can come out of the account at any time during the next six years. As long as you have sufficient funds available, as not to go over the limit once it comes out, there is nothing to worry about.
Sit back, enjoy and hope they have forgotten you. (But, like any bad penny, it's likely to turn up.)0 -
hmmm, the thing is it's 275 quid.0

So if they have made a mistake and it's come out of someone else's account you don't particularly care then?burnleypingu wrote: »well no, i'm not going to volunteer the information to them. if they've made the mistake then that's there fault.0 -
of course i do!
but when such person realises i'm sure they'll get their money refunded.
i can't see how they will have taken it out of someone elses account though. how is that possible?0 -

Just by mistyping the account number (or the computer misreading the digits). There's checksums that catch this sort of thing but they are not infallible.0 -
I'd ring them - you know it'll get debited at the end of the month when you don't have £275 in there. Plus, when the person realises, they won't get refunded until the bank take the money off you.0
