A rubber stamp made up with the nursery name and an ink pad costs less than a fiver and makes a receipt
more acceptable than a piece of plain paper.

I accept that it was a bone fide nursey from what you have said but they are not a very professional business.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Yes there was a Julie about a year ago. Thank you so much. I'm useless with the Internet and finding things.
Hopefully records will have been saved as we are still in 14/15 tax year. Thank you.

It doesn't matter if they printed their receipts on gold parchment paper with a wax seal. The point is I don't have them. I threw them away three months after my son left to start school.

    Hi,

I've actually amended my post since I first posted it. The new link shows the names of all the trustees for the playgroup. You may have a better chance with this list. If you can find the person in charge of the finances they would normally be the best person to be able to provide you with the details.

Just in case you need it here is the original link I posted.

You are an absolute star Dori2o
Thank you so much. I'll start my ow investigation on Monday.

And thank you Blondebubbles for that helpful link. Obviously when they've tried to check my claim they've seen that the playgroup no longer exists. They just haven't looked at dates.

Could they just take this £1461 from my salary? I only earn £1000 a month. I couldn't cope If they did and I only ask as I've just been told this happened to a 'friend of a friend'

Only if you don't make contact to appeal against the decision or fail to make contact regarding the repayment of any overpayment. In these cases HMRC has the right to collect the underpayment from your salary over 12 months.

You are quite a way away from this happening so don't worry about that yet, just do what you can to get any information that supports your childcare claim. The letter you received should give details of what to do should you disagree with their decision. If it doesn't call them and tell them that you disagree and wish to appeal/formally object to the decision.

If you paid cash, can you show that amount of cash being withdrawn on the same day each week and stopping when the nursery closed, or at the very least demonstrate that you are now, on average, withdrawing that amount of cash less from the bank weekly?

At the end of the day, if they tried to claim these payments back from you and you took your appeals as far as the courts then the matter would be decided on the balance of probabilities.

If you can provide evidence that the nursery closed when your claim ended, and you were clearly drawing more cash from the bank prior to that date then you should be OK.

I've no idea how to contact the people who ran the nursery. It was Our Lady Of Gillingham Playgroup and they closed last summer. I knew the names of his key workers there but not last names. They were OFSTED registered and at the time of my claim I provided all the relevant details. I just don't stupidly have them now.

Since you are saying that you provided all the information at the time then you can complete a Subject Access form

    https://online.hmrc.gov.uk/shortforms/form/DPU_SAR

asking for all the information that you have sent/given to them.
Hopefully they should have the relevant details in the 'pack' they send you.

Of course, the other advice about contacting the play group should be done too.
