Is there any way to find out old loan details?

I have some old loans I wish to check if I was mis-sold PPI on but I have since destroyed the paper work for them and they are not appearing on my credit eport as they are older than 6 years (not that the credit report lists any agreement or account numbers, so would probably be no use).
I have written to the bank asking them if I was mis-sold PPI but they have just sent a standard letter saying they've looked into and have found that I was not sold PPI based on all information available but they do not state the ref number of the account. So my thinking is that as I was unable to supply the loan details they are unwilling to go out of their way to check the real status and are just fobbing me off.
Is there any other way of finding the loan details? Thanks.

Try a subject access request.
They normally would have searched the records to find you and locate for any details.0
