Change of circumstances for Housing Benefit

We are in receipt of a small amount of housing benefit at the moment.
Son is flying the nest in 12 days as he has got a date for completion on flat.
Can I just phone housing benefit and inform them of change of circumstances, or will I have to put it in writing?
Thanks in advance

If you don't want to work, you have to work to earn enough money so that you won't have to work

Personally I would telephone first and inform them. They will no doubt want some form of evidence that your son has left so you will have time to organise this and then can send it with a letter.
Don't forget to keep copies of everything.
If at all possible, if they need evidence, then take this in and keep receipts for any paperwork that they copy/scan. This is your evidence that you informed them.0 -
I always send a letter and an email as well as a phone call.

When I had a change of circs last year - starting work part-time, coming off carers and being awarded PIP, I had to fill in a change of circs form which I downloaded from my Council's web site. I then had to take the form plus evidence to the Council. OP take a look at your Council's web site and see what information is there.0

Thank you. I've emailed them today with the address he will be moving to and will call them on Monday to see what proof they need if any."I live my dream today, I lived it yesterday and I'll be living yours tomorrow":smileyhea

in spoke with someone then months, years down line theres no record
As others have said and what always do is to make sure theres some
thing in writing gives you peace of mind0
