O/S Daily Saturday 14th February 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Still dark, doesn’t look like we’ve had a frost.l Load in WM.
DH and I enjoying first peaceful cuppas of the day – bit early to be honest but woke up then couldn’t get back to sleep. Both boys still fast asleep in their pits.
Dinner last night was chicken and bacon kievs, chips, beans/veg, salad for the menfolk. I had salmon fish cakes, jacket potato, veg and salad. Have left the boys a couple of options for today as we’re going out at approx. 9.20 ish and won’t be back until early evening. I have booked a table at a pub for lunch, we’re picking our friends up so will get to spend some time with them as haven’t seen them since before Xmas.
I was reasonably productive yesterday kept going with the washing, drying and ironing, did some admin work on the pc. Organised the menu plan so when I did the food shopping I bought anything I needed. Would really have liked to get some baking/cooking done but I ran out of time. I’m hoping that I can get back into this over the next few weeks, have really missed it but just don’t have the motivation to get on with it, I haven’t baked properly since before I broke my foot last summer, I think if I can just get on with it once I’ll be ok and will then get on with it each week, it saves such a lot of money as there’s stuff in the tins for both pack ups, desserts and snacks as and when needed. I will be serving roast pork tomorrow for lunch, I was looking in the SM and it was all good prices as the joints were all on offer, but not very big, so by the time I’d cooked it there would only just be enough meat, so went to the butchery counter, and the butcher had a look in the fridge and cut a really big joint to the size I wanted it’s a really large piece and it cost £6 ish – so a good buy. I’ll be serving all the trimmings with it then hopefully will have some cold sliced pork to serve with jackets and salad for Mon/Tues night.
Have a good Valentine’s day everyone x
Keep safe and well x

Morning all. Happy Valentine's Day. Forecast for us says it.s going to be miserable all day but slightly less cold. Don't you just long for some blue sky and warmth in the sun. This winter seems endless!
Had a good but tiring day with the 3 DGDs yesterday. Got to the museum as planned, with all the usual threats! We'll be back at the car if you run about, touch what you shouldn't, fingermark the glass, etc etc! So they were on their best behaviour (most of the time!) and, as usual, enjoyed the visit. Then lunch time in Spoons. Although it was Fish Friday, and the main reason for going there, only one of them wanted fish in the end! Still, all 3 cleared their plates which was good. I hate sending back their half eaten meals! So they were allowed ice cream and choc brownies for dessert.
Cleaning day is now postponed to today and I hate having it to do at the weekend but needs must! Still need to have a poke around in the freezer for today's meals. Lunch will have to be something easy so will probably defrost some soup and a panini. May do a fish pie for tea as there is still a bowl of mash in the fridge, left from Thursday and will need using up.
Have a good day all and I hope you are feeling a bit better today Dumpling and coming to terms with your loss. You'll feel bereft for quite a while, so don't feel embarrassed when the sadness sweeps over you and you need to shed a few tears.
Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning everyone.
Bit the same here, woke at 6.30 and lay there wide awake it's so annoying!
Plans for today include cooking a large batch of mince and then making various meals for the freezer. Then I want to slice all the onions up and stuff them in the freezer too. Might use the processor for that. And then I want to get out for a walk, we've been promised sunshine and I expect the weatherman to keep thst promise and deliver sunshine.
Joiner didn't turn up yesterday and said it may be today. Well, I'll not be hanging about the house another day 'just in case'.
I want to burn a couple of CDs for the car. It takes me ages because I dither over which songs to put on them (as MP3s) and generally faff about. Then I end up with about 20 of my firm favourites in there even though I want to listen to new music. Somehow I feel comfortable with a sprinkling of The Who and Led Zeppelin inbetween the songs from the latest 'now' album.
Hope everyone has a good day.0 -
Good Morning everyone. cloudy, cold and damp here this morning so a day indoors planned. I shall be stripping the beds and washing the bedding, sorting out the girls bedrooms ready for a swap round. DD2s room has the airing cupboard in it so we're swapping the double bed from that into the front room as the back room will be warmer for children to sleep in and will take both the single bed and the cot. We're going to be in a state of upheaval for a couple of weeks as we're going to replace the ancient carpet in the back room too. We will probably give the walls a fresh lick of paint and gloss the woodwork as well so that's best done before we have the new carpet laid. Busy time ahead I think, nothing unusual there then!!!
I'm making Mattar Paneer in the slow cooker from my new recipe book for our supper tonight which He Who Knows has chosen and I have to say it's the right dish for this dreary weather and will make the house smell delicious. I'm looking forward to testing some of the new recipes as all my existing slow cooker recipe books are at least 15 years old and possibly not in keeping with modern cuisine any longer, we'll see!
Have yourselves a good day everyone, Lyn xxx.0 -
Morning All
Dull and overcast this morning but not raining. I was hoping to put some washing out but I don't think that's going to happen.
My cousin and husband arrived about 5pm, they didn't go to the rugby match at Gallashiels in the end - probably just as well as it would have been midnight before they got here! Had a lovely evening chatting, spag bol was good, just enough left for DD to take leftovers for work today.
I may take my visitors to see the Kelpies today and maybe the Falkirk Wheel, they are both worth a visit.
Mrs LW, you take care moving that furniture.
HH, have a good week off and enjoy your time away!
Dumpling, big hugs to you and your family.
Have a good weekend. Take care. XX0 -
'S OK Camelot I've got muscles that work very well and can still pick up the 25 kilo bags of spuds and carry them, not in danger of a decline just yet! Thank you for caring pet, Lyn xxx.0

Morning :hello:
I've been busy in the garden. I pulled everything out of my little sheltered area – I've been aiming for a small American-style porch kind of area, but everyone just seems to see it as Somewhere Dry To Dump Their Stuff  – and found things I thought were lost forever, threw lots of things away and gave it a good clean and tidy. We had a bonfire to get rid of old bits of wood, corrugated cardboard (they won't take it for recycling here) and some branches from the willow tree. Pots are ready to be filled with compost and the greenhouses are ready to plant things in. I'm ahead of myself
Morrisons are delivering in this area now, so I thought I'd try them out. Delivery is coming this morning. I forgot to check if there's a substitute option when I ordered, though when I went to pay it said one item was out of stock and I wasn't asked to choose anything similar – the amount was automatically taken off the total. So I think I'll get exactly what I asked for? I remember Tesco used to substitute (do they still?) and someone on here got a bottle of lemon scented cleaner instead of actual lemons
Some of the chillis have been promoted to the kitchen so I'm slowly getting back space in the bedroomOne of mr tru's chilli-grower mates on FB sent us some weird and wonderful tomato seeds so I'll plant those in the next few days.
I wanted to sort the flower pots and planters today but the weather is wet and miserable so I'll leave them for another day. Not sure what to do with myself now
Mrs LW My leg still isn't quite back to normal yet and won't let me pick up anything heavier than a small sack of chicken feed (10k) and I don't want mr tru 'helping' me because he starts interfering with my plans. So if you can just pop round to move my heavy garden stuff that'll be fab

Hi everyone,
Dumpling, I'm so sorry about Meg, she sounded lovely and I know what a loss it is.
I've not been posting much, I've been a bit down, it'll be the anniversary of dad's death tomorrow (2 years) and as mum's death was a year ago on 27th Jan I think the couple of weeks in between has got to me, I dreamt about them last night.
I have also had a housework fail this week which always depresses me a bit. I really need to get myself more organised, working has really thrown me out of what little routine I had.
Sorry for being a moaning Minnie, I'll go now.0 -
Morning all,
Happy Valentines day to those celebrating I got a lovely card and bunch of flowers this morning.
Beautiful day here today I have a load in the wm which can be hung out for a while, OH work stuff to go in next.
We need to have a good clean through downstairs this morning then upstairs tomorrow, going to drop dd home later and nip into MR M for a bit of beef, I cooked some at work during the week and have been wanting some since !
Talking of work I won an award there yesterday, for keeping a calm head and keeping going when I got assaulted by a client last year, I can choose a prize at the moment its between a £40 voucher or a day off holiday ! Its nice that the hard work is recognised !
Right better get on, have good days all xx0
