Financial Associations!

I'm currently applying for a mortgage (filling it out on Thursday in branch) and I just noticed on Noddle I have financial associations from 2+ years ago due to having 3 of us named on a British Gas account in a house at uni.

How likely is this to be an issue? Considering I've had no problems getting credit cards recently.

And how do I get these associations removed considering the disassociation forms require a current address and I don't have these details?

EDIT: Also will checking my file with experian and equifax cause any issues? I only got a new credit card a month ago and don't want to put too many searches on my file.

This shouldn't be an issue, provided BG aren't chasing a payment. Now that these associations are in place you'll need to get them removed, but I'm guessing the CRAs won't make it easy.

Why .... do people set up such financial associations? They serve no useful purpose to the customer and only benefit merchants. They allow merchants to chase multiple people for potential debts. NEVER set up payments to utility companies in joint names! NEVER set up anything in joint names! While it might make sense to have a joint current account or mortgage, it doesn't for anything else.

Of course the scum utility companies are allowed to set up these non-existent financial associations simply because people sharing accommodation might also share bills. This should not be allowed. Who allows it? The good old, bad old, CRAs.

Checking the information the CRAs hold about you will not affect anything.

My son had the same problem when at Uni and sharing a house. It is quite common for a utility company to latch on to anyone they can in this situation, especially where it is students and they are worried they aren't going to get paid when they move. His house mate had a bill in his name and because it hadn't been paid they chased my son for it and it was absolutely nothing to do with him.

The CRAs do have a lot to answer for in these situations.

I would do anything I possibly could to get it removed but I bet it will be a real pain.

    Good luck.
