Another price increase M - Tetley 240 Teabags, were £2.89 last Wednesday, now gone up to £4. And that £4 was a red border price as well, as if it were an offer...!
I think it also had a previous high price showing. If this continues, I will get so annoyed I might go to Trading Standards:p.
Was £2.89 last Wednesday, now £4. Crossed out £5.48 may have been showing.
I nearly fell for that £4 as well. Except I did not - I didn't really take the price of the Tetley Tea Bags in M as saw a £4 red border price on one of them (which I now understand is this size) and thought "that's too high - no good". Fortunately I know that £2.89 are 'better' prices on tea and not the £4 ones. Momentarily thought (a moment ago, as it happened) that I hadn't got any price for Tetley Tea Bags (240) at all:eek:. How could I not have got updated details of something on my previous list?!? Just been to msm and seen they are £4 on there. My list clearly shows they were £2.89 last time.
So, avoid! £4 is not a good price (certainly not in the context of lower pricing), and do not think the red background means it is an offer price at all. The previous price I have was £2.89.
A price increase.
(If you are extremely quick and really desperate to compare against £2.89, you may put a fingers up to Mr M and go and shop in Mr A for them right now and hope they compare against £2.89 - would need to beat what may be the mid-morning update.)
Northern Ireland - if you have got this far, just ignore me all night as I will go on incessantly about nothing but...
I think the stores may be trying to say that the high prices (e.g. £5.48) are the prices that are charged more often in the store, are on for longer, and therefore the 'established price'; however quotations of previous prices (such as crossed-out pricing) ought to be the trader's last immediate previous price*, so there may be a bit of an argument about that - and doubtless also argue that the Pricing Code of Practice is merely guidance and not law that has to be followed. If there is any legal doubt, as ever anyone can try and use it to see if they can get off scott-free - even doubt that is sometimes sowed by people that claim that there is doubt! We'll leave it there - that as may be.
(Perhaps I ought to argue it - as I obviously feel strongly and therefore would very likely make an argument that would be convincing.)
*Unless it's a case of a series of reductions, which is not the case here.0 -
