I love the sentiment here It does not make it better or worse if the gifts are lavish I dont go for big celebrations just a nice meal if we can manage out Had friends who spend hundreds of pounds on each other for every conceivable occasion They had mega debt.
Happy anniversary to Mr and Mr Izzy too
We have friends like that.
Obviously valentines day was last weekend and (despite most of them being married) we saw expensive gifts and card pics posted on Facebook.
More fool them I say, I'm a cheap date and a box of 1p chocs or a visit to the pictures courtesy of sweet Sundays would keep me happy any day :jHistoric Debt August 2009 = £63,600 10th March 2017 = £0 100% paid all gone!
Mortgage started June 2015 = £170,000 January 2022 = £134,000
Saving for Xmas 2022= . . Amazon £55

Thanks bubbs, long process- but she is getting there, depression is a horrible unseen illness- where if you had a broken leg people would know you were suffering and poorly- not that she wants sympathy but she is fed up with people telling her to pull her socks up and smile- if only they knew!! she also had legs ulcers due to an undiagnosed dvt and a type of malaria whist on honeymoon 4 years ago- therefore pain, ulcers, depression and suicidal - a vicious circle
and shes only 32. It impacts on the whole of the family, but I try not to let it get me down
as long as she is on the right track , dont forget to look after yourself too x

My father had a habit of being a little worse for wear every time he went to the registry office. Thus being the reason my brother is called after Dad and not my uncle as my mother planned and for the reason I have a middle name she didnt plan and my brother has two.
The final catastrophe was their marriage certificate, where my grandads middle name ( grooms parents as it were) is listed as "SPANKIE" and not the traditional scottish name "SWANKIE":rotfl:
This fact only being discovered after a conversation recently with my Aunt which she nearly fell off couch laughting at !
Stupid old B4ger she called him !!
One of the many hilarious tales of my father !

Thanks Evangeline - had a go at the beer shop but none of the triggers in Killinghall, Leeds - no Lancashire beers but lots of local ones so thought I'd try one of those just in case but it still picked up the multi so just a little bit back - but still compares favourably for a filler.

Cod is still working. I wish I'd bought some Imperial Leathers on my shop two weeks ago though - even if I would be paying for them and even if they picked up A's mbuy. Would have gone £6 (any 2 for £3 x2) vs £1.96 (a huge difference) as T was then on 98p 4 for 2 and same prices throughout the offer - could have got 4 different ones. Sadly I noticed them a week after my shop and I don't think they're on anymore. Would have got me a £6 APG (bought with another item, on T half price, and fillers) from my earlier bigger voucher - instead, I got the Cod and the other item and slashed my APG to £4.:( Would have been better if I had done the I.L. shop, then used the £6 back on a Cod shop, rather than getting the Cod shop, not knowing anything about the I.L.s, and slashing it down more - to £4 APG - that couldn't then be spent on the I.L.s without more money and thus lost more. Depends what my aim is - is it maintaining as much as possible of my APG, or getting essential items?
Instead I've been doing useless non-glitch shops - and 10% off prices of 'cheap' SP items, as prices are roughly the same elsewhere (other than the Fish Fingers that are now even more expensive than Sains:eek:) is hardly even worth printing, as still paying 90% cost:eek:. Now reminds me how useless my old way of shopping, for straight 10%, was before I found the Elite - and when I used to buy more as well. Now got everything, so hardly buy anything:rotfl: - even 8 items is a struggle and something like 9p off 90p items x8 - just 72p off £7.20 shop:eek:. Non-glitch APGs would be more worthwhile if I was doing £40 shops in the first place (but why would I ever now spend such an horrendous amount?). I just don't spend anywhere near that amount on any single shop - not tempted by supermarket layouts that get almost everyone coming out with far more items and their bill being far more costly when there are 'bargains' on special offer throughout the store. (Here, I'm again guilty of thinking out loud and not revealing the information, known to me, behind what I've said - so here it is: I'm thinking of a post I've seen elsewhere on the internet (or maybe it was Eat Well for Less BBC show) where someone I think they may have started shopping in local shops in the high streets and markets and stuff like that and said they were saving far more now, as whenever they go to the supermarkets, they end up buying far more and notice that when things are on special offers they just end up increasing the cost of their shopping and end up coming out with far more than they intended - I've not put this quite the right way that they did - so hope I've not lost the point. In addition, also supermarket psychology working again (getting people to buy far more).)
This planned way of shopping does dramatically reduce our costs - and helps avoid a lot of impulse buying (especially as we now remember seeing far better offers on those products previously:rotfl:).0
