  • Spent a lovely day eating cake with my friend today (the one with terminal cancer). She had her third round of chemo, but is doing amazingly, and fortunately it doesn't seem to be giving her too many problems.

We're hoping to go away for a couple of days for a girlie mini break at the end of march as long as it fits in with her treatment.

I hope you manage to get away. I've been in a similar situation this week. My brother and I have been entertaining some friends from Germany and their daughter was told at Christmas that it would be her last. So on her bucket list, she wanted to come to London, go to Primark and go to China Town. They don't have a lot of money so been finding them as many deals as possible. It really breaks your heart, she only turned 16 last week :(

I am such a numpty:p I came into the room and boys were talking about how quickly someone had made sponge puddings they said 20 mins to make 3 different types of sponge and custard. I said thats not quick I could do it in under 10 mins they argued the point and went on so I said I will prove you I will do chocolate, syrup and jam sponges in under 10 mins, served with custard but you have to have them for pudding, They set a stop watch, remembering the microwave sponge on here I did one mix then divided it down 2 of each flavour in tea cups, cheated with ambrosia custard, 9 mins 30 seconds 6 puddings dished out, boys ended up eating 2 each, ds2 loves chocolate, oh had jam and ds3 had syrup. Then ds3 said see told you I could get mum to make us all the puddings we like :eek:
    I was totally hustled :o:o:rotfl:

:rotfl: sounds like something my brother would do :D

I'm sure you did a fab job with the hospitality
And I think it's wonderful that Primark made it to someone's bucket list :o Just fab! (there isn't an appropriate smiley :o )

Hugs you must be feeling sad :A

Yes and no to the sadness, more for her dad really as strange as that sounds. Her 12 year old brother doesn't fully understand, but with her dad, you can really see it in his eyes. There's a running joke between them where he calls her princess and she pretends to hate it. So after watching Cake Boss (where they make epic cakes), she said that he could call her princess on the condition that he makes her a shoe cake for her 16th birthday party. The specs were; it had to be 5 foot high, pink and covered in dots with ribbons too. He can't cook at all, but after 2 days constructed this massive cake to look like a shoe and it was amazing. Apparently everyone cried when they saw it and he made her wear a tiara for the rest of the party :)
