That link is still active on this BB, and points to a completely different site to the Nationwide.

Might be an idea to edit the link in your post.

Quite! It's obviously a scam, firstly you know you are not with Nationwide, secondly it's got all the classic hallmarks asking you to visit and login to a site, and thirdly it has the ubiquitous cloaked URL using a simple HTML trick i.e. it shows one address (a legit Nationwide address), but the actual link hidden underneath goes to a site at eidechsenzuechter . com

As with all phishing scams, the link actually points to: (I've put in spaces to prevent it working properly, to save people accidentally clicking it!)

www. eidechsenzuechter. com / administrator / modules / nationwide . co . uk

(if you hover the cursor over or right click and choose select link, you'll see it)

I'd edit the original post to save sending more people to this dodgy website too as Debbie suggests above!

i'm not even going to click on that link - i would suggest others do not either :) it might be good if a mod makes it 'unclickable' (removes it from being a hyperlink).

Flippin 'eck!, I've never known what phishing was, but now I do. I wanted to click on some sort of panic button when I saw it at yahoo, but couldn't find one, hence me coming here.

Jo I will do what you suggest then delete it, Thanks guys.

islandman, one simple anti-phishing rule: never click on a link in an email. Just go directly to the banking site in the normal way that you do that. If you can't find what you're after there, contact customer service by phone.

The same applies to phone calls, including those where the easily forged calling line ID looks as though it's from the bank. Call back at the normal number.

That is: put yourself in control of who you're talking to, instead of trusting people approaching you.

Good advice from James above, I'd add: never act on e-mails that ask you to log into a site that looks vague. If it's from your bank or from a site that you have an account with, the proper sender will include information that only they know about you, and then still don't click a link... (see my last paragraph below).

You can always see where the link goes, by hovering the cursor over it, as I mentioned earlier. What a link reads, and where it goes are not always the same.

Thirdly if you did click on the click, you'd see the dodgy address in your browser bar.

Therefore, whenever you login into any secure site, always type the address (URL) in yourself, or use a bookmark you set-up yourself. Never use an email link!

If you are ever unsure, ring or email the bank/company involved with details you have first, not with details supplied in a potentially fraudulent email.
