Cap 1 Secured Card

Hi All,

Just received a new card in the post to replace the expiring card I had with Cap 1. It was a secured credit card with a limit of £200 that I took out 2 and a half years ago.

Instead of being the insipid grey it is now shiny and black with the word Platinum on it.

I cannot find anything online about this and was wondering what the platinum bit means etc? Is it just a fancy name to make me feel a tad better about myself?

Thanks

Its a fancy name to make you feel better. What really matters is the interest rate.

I'd rather have an Copper card with a 7% interest rate and various perks than a Platinum card at 24.9% with no perks at all.

With chip & pin, the cashier shouldn't even see what's written on the card so it's even more meaningless nowadays.

    That's it!

For AX "Platinum" still means something; for all other cards it is just a marketing tool. Platinum cards are not more difficult to get than other cards. For what it's worth (nothing), I have an MBNA platinum card.

But a secured card, tarted-up in platinum, is taking the biscuit. :D

My HSBC cards have 'Premier' on them, yet offer far worse rewards than my BA Amex (which looks IMO a lot more boring)

It's just to make you feel better.

Despite it's fancy name, it's CapialOne's standard card: http://www.capitalone.co.uk/creditcards/credit-card-range.jsf. Look at the pictures.

My Santander 123 credit has WORLD on it. Dunno what that's about. :)
