Agency advice please

Slightly different take on this, I have been asked to form a limited company by the agency I have just accepted a job with or they cannot/will not pay me. Again I wasnt informed of this on the outset only after I accepted the job, which I would really like to take.

Having a limited company will cost me greatly in accounts/returns etc and this particular job is only for six months. Do I take it that this agency isnt the usual sort of recruitment place? Any idea how I should proceed please.

The agency cannot insist you set up a LTD co for a job that is illegal.

But a LTD co places far reaching responsibilities that go on for much longer than the paltry 6 month tenure offered by that agency.

Unless you're going to write a business plan, act in a B2B marketplace, take on staff, bill individual companies directly and pay for accountants to write and submit annual accounts it won't be worth it.

Like the umbrella schemes, LTD co's rely on a higher paid work environment and longer term view of your work objectives. The fees that will be incumbent upon you would make it financially unpalable for anything less than £30 ph - in my opinion.

    I wouldn't take the role.
  • This is too complicated, all I want is a job.
I have been searching the internet for answers here and am more confused. I am just an admin worker, an employee. I dont class myself as a consultant nor contractor, they appear far more "high-flying" than me. I think I have fallen into something I dont want with this agency, looks like I will have to turn the offer down. What a con!

Yes, please do as I'm sure there are many other agencies out there that won't enforce this requirement. Plus, I think that agency is looking for a way to dodge Employers NI, which would be your responsibility if you opened a LTD. This means your rate is automatically 11% inferior.
