Children's digital camera

Has anyone bought your little ones a digital camera.
There seem to be a few that are flooding the market designed for young children.
My son is 3 and is majorly into taking pictures, and buying disposible cameras isn't very economical, as you probably only get one good picture out of 26 taken each time. Factoring in the cost of the disposible camera and the processing I think I would prefer to pay for one of the Kid Tough Digital cameras. But which one?
Has anyone got any of the few that seem to be on the market and if so what do you, don't you like about them.
I am looking for a robust one, so only interested in the ones specifically designed for young children, (argos have 5 different ones on their website).
Thanks

We have the fisher price kid though one and for robustness I would absolutely recommend it. The quality of pictures isn't great but your paying for the fact they can drop it on the floor as much as they like and you don't have to worry. The controls are easy too, as in they can look through what pictures they've taken on the little screen and delete them.
No-where in the UK had it available just before christmas so I went on to good old eBay, shopped around for a while and managed to get one over from the US for £50 including delivery and the kid tough case that fits it. And the exchange rate is better now so you could get a bargain
Hope this helps
Keri xhey there's no money but we couldn't be happier if we tried

How about one of these bad boys?

It's an indestructible video camera.. ok, its not for kids, but i bet you'd get some hilarous home movies made
You could also get one of these:

I think it's very similar to the fisher price model0 -
I think if you take a look on HUKD, you can get some decent codes for Additions - also try Littlewoods as there are some good codes on here too.0

We had this a couple of years ago, and I bought my DS, who was about 5 at the time a cheap "proper" camera off Ebay, and it did the trick, the fad didn't last long, and it's still useable now,
I know it's not specifically a kids one though, but they do withstand a bit!0 -
HI Everyone,
I have been looking into the kids digital cameras and have found kid-tough by fisher price & kiddi zoom by v-tech I thought you may like to know the difference in quality of pictures.
Kid Tough = 1.3 interpolated Mega Pixels or 640 x 480 resolution for 4" x 6" prints;
Kiddi-zoom = 0.6 megapixels.
I know which I would rather and they are both £59.99 in most shops.
Take a look at the fisherprice & v-tech websites for more info (although I had to email v-tech to find the cameras resolution).0 -
We have bought one for Christmas for our nearly 3 year old.
We did wonder whether to get her a proper cheap one, or one of these special kids ones. In the end we decided on the kids one because even though the pictures aren't great (and we doubt her photography skills will be either) it just made sense to have one that she can't break easily. Also with our cameras its not the printed out item she likes but seeing the picture that she has taken.
Sorry to be no help, but in the end I think both have advantages and disadvantages and you have to decide which is more important and take your childs skills in to account. Maybe if our daughter was older we would have made a different choice.0 -
I gave my kids (youngest is 4) my old 2mp canon powershot. It still takes good pics despite being dropped countless times.. covered in a thick layer of stickiness.. licked.. bitten... scratched... kicked - you name it!! I did look at the specific kids ones but they were so basic that I think they are a bit of a waste - when/if the canon one dies I'll just buy whatever cheap simple compact i can find on ebay or on offer.0

Hi, I thought I would bump this, as I'm looking out for a digital camera for my daughter. She's 5, so I'd like to think that she'd be able to have a "proper" one without breaking it.
If she was younger, I wouldn't mind less than perfect photo quality, but she loves printing her photos out in boots, and showing them off at school.
Does anyone know of any decent cameras for older kids, not pre schoolers, that are reasonably priced, and relatively robust?
Oh, and I'm afraid it has to be pink!!
Thanks for any advice xx0 -
Hi we just brought our son the fisher price waterproof camera from argos for £44.99 which had 25% discount from 59£ I think for xmas.
We read so many reviews and felt that although the quality may not be great it is about him having a camera (and not ours)to use and it is robust & waterproof. We paid £10 extra and took out the warrenty (got £5 argos voucher back) so it is covered for a replacement if in 3years it is bust.0 -
