Wickes damaged doors

Hi all
We took delivery of glazed internal doors in November to separate the living room dining room ...
Arranged for a carpenter to fit them the week after on the whole we were very pleased and the fit was great
There was a lot of manufacturing sawdust on the glass so we did not clean them till after fitting upon cleaning them there significant scaratches on both panes which would not polish out ... You feel them with your nail
We reported this to wickes immediately and after chasing them for 9 weeks they sent an engineer out from the manufacturer who said it was a manufacturing fault
Now wickes have agreed to supply replacement doors but want us to appoint a carpenter for fitting and say they will reimburse us
But to be honest after keeping on at them and the amount of time it has taken to get this far I do not think they will reimburse us in a timely fashion
Any thoughts will be much appreciated as I don't think we should have to go the expense of shelling out again to have to keep chasing them for payment
Thanks

I think Wickes are being perfectly reasonable.

As I read your post, I was expecting to see Wickes saying "you should've inspected them before hanging. We will replace the glass, but any removal and refitting is down to you".

Get your fitter back... at least you know the quality of his work.
  • Hi more than happy to get my carpenter back but as this was a cash in hand job for him he is not happy to invoice wickes directly so the onus is on them to correct this .... I'm not happy paying twice and chasing wickes for reimbursement they haven't instilled me with confidence as we have had to chase this for a result since November
    Thanks for your comments

OK, then tell Wickes to organise it then.

It does appear that may take a little time, doesn't it?
  • We are trying but I think we may have a fight on our hands as they seem to be pushing for as it pay and they reimburse us ...
As I said it's taken this long to get to this stage
If we could replace the glass we would accept this but the doors are designed in such a way that this is not possible
And the glass should of had a protective film to peel off after fitting
