Problems with private landlady

Just a small point, but you keep using the word "eviction"... That is something dramatic and will put off other landlords, when so far all that has happened is that your landlady has attempted to give you notice that she wants her property back.
And could you not give a different kind of reference?0 -

Possibly but the form we filled out for the NLA credit check reuired the landlady's contact details otherwise we couldn't submit the web-form. I guess we could ask employers for a character reference but I feel very uncomfortable involving my boss in my personal life. I don't know who else we could ask.0 -
If we do go with a Letting Agent aren't they likely to be even more stringent about referencing? Most of the letting agents in Cambridge have poor reviews on Allagents and where there are good reviews they are mostly from the landlords with bad ones from tenents.
OP, try Radcliffe and Rust, they are a small independent agency and are great for LLs and tenants, they really do their best. They do not however have hundreds of properties at any one time and those they do let pretty quickly.
Go in and meet them, have a chat and I am sure they will give you good advice, hope this helps.0
