Electoral roll as a homeless person ? Valid for good credit score?

Electoral roll as a homeless person
Hello

I know it sounds a like a silly question, but I am a lodger with a landlady and I don’t have a regular contract (I can’t ask for housing benefits as per her request, this kind of thing), if I sign up to the electoral roll as a homeless person will still be valid in terms of positive credit history ?

I am asking because I am sure I registered as a homeless person already, basically listing my address as correspondence address and place I occasionally reside (“friend puts me up for a few nights” kind of thing), but recently I signed up to Experian and it told me I am not registered to any electoral roll, even though the registration I think it lasts a year? So might have expired.

life circumstances means I can’t afford a higher rent for now… and afraid it won’t change any time soon

Thank you

I think if your register to vote from a temporary address (which is what homeless people wanting to vote are advised to do) that you don't then automatically appear as living at the same address the following year.

First I would speak to the local coucil to see if they have you registered as being on the electoral roll at all.

If they do then I am not sure if a temporary address would show at all with the credit reference agencies, or if they do show it but mark the file in some way to indicate that this is not a permanent address.

    Hi Kobracai,

I can see that this puts you in a difficult situation as many lenders use the electoral roll to help confirm the ID of the applicant.

If you register as a homeless person then your electoral roll details wouldn't appear on your credit report, as you declare a connection to a local area, but not as I understand a specific address.

For the information to appear on your report it needs to be linked to a specific address.

You could add a notice of correction to your report to explain that you are registered and can supply confirmation, but that you are not able to register at your current address. It would then be up to the lender to take this into account should they choose.

You can find out more about adding a notice of correction here

    Kind Regards
