Marker, Iam full of adniration for you, I am not sure I could do it. I am still not sure how this will pan out but I would be worried constantly about money and his actions if he came home...
At the moment my husband isnt gambling (he cant - has no money) and is adamant he is not going to do it again, he is making all the right noises. Has your husband ever stopped before?
He stops and starts ALL the time. We had a great period over Christmas but mid January he dived straight back in and has been doing it ever since - his debt unpaid again, no contribution to our house hold again etc.
Its difficult when you love someone. After 10 long years I seem to question all the time, is love enough and it really isn't. Unless they the gamblers are willing to put all in to stopping their addiction, life will never change.
I sound really negative at the moment and thats because I am in the crux of yet another 'dark spell' with my husband. It is hard work.
Gambling addicts are manipulative compulsive liars, and it takes time to learn when they are telling the truth or working on you. My husband as broke down many a time wanting help to stop, and is sincere in wanting our lives to change - BUT the addict in him can easily get drawn back into that world. It is a battle.99.9% of my posts include sarcasm!Touch my bum :money:Tesco - £1000 , Carpet - £20, Barclaycard - £50, HSBC - £50 + Car - £1700SAVED =£0Debts - £28500 -
Sorry to hear this. I am recently separated myself and the emotional impact is rather hard to bear sometimes. But you will get through it, things do get easier. Anyway my point is - you don't have to work hard to be old style!
It's a myth that living with less money needs to mean more work. You just have to simplify things as much as possible. Eg, I've just done the veg and pasta for today's lunch. Instead of standing over the stove stirring a pot and wasting time and energy, I just boiled the kettle and put the veg, pasta and boiling water in a thermos flask. It'll be ready in 30 mins or so. Now I can relax and read MSE!'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0 -
If you haven't done so already, ring your council and see if you can pay your council tax over twelve months rather than ten. Helps a bit.
Good luck, I wish you well xxxx0
