Mis sold Natwest Account

Hello everyone,
I initially had an account with Natwest opened in 2001, I then opened a second account online in 2008 to keep money separate etc.

A month or two down the line I was getting charged £6 per month for this second account which I had no idea that there was a monthly charge as it said nowhere on the website (if I had known I wouldn't have opened it) with there being no money in the account, I was getting charged the £6 fee + £27 failed direct debit. In total it came to a total of £438 which was passed on to a DCA to recover. Would I be able to claim this money back? I do not know the account number to this account, only my original account from 2001. Is this enough info for me to go ahead and lodge a claim without any bank statements etc?

All help appreciated.

Thank You!

You can complain about a packaged account but there is a damage to your credibility that you didn't cancel the account as soon as you got the first charge that you say you didn't know about.

If you are in current hardship they may well help freezing charges etc. However, if your charges are from years ago then it is unlikely as historic charges are rarely refunded since the banks won the "unfair charges" court case.

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • I don't understand your post. If you were being charged for failed direct debits why wasn't there sufficient in the account to cover these? As a Natwest customer I can confirm that I am regularly advised of their scale of charges and it is up to you to manage your affairs in a way to minimise or avoid these.

It sounds like an account was opened up with a £6 monthly fee but the OP never put any money in so the £6 bounced and a late payment/default was applied. I am surprised that you could sign up for an account with a fee without seeing this mentioned on any documentation or material from the bank
