To buy or not to buy?

I called into a dealership tonight and was told to wait until the end of march when the q1 is about to end. He said this is generally when deals become pretty good. Has anyone had any experiences of this and examples of offers?
Most dealerships have targets that they have to reach to qualify for a bonus from the manufacturer. These may be monthly or quarterly.
If they get near the end of the period and they need to sell a few more cars to qualify for the bonus they will often look at doing a deal. Or sometimes they will register the vehicle(s) themselves and then sell at a discount as a pre-reg
The discount will depend upon how many cars they need to sell to hit their target. If, say, they need to sell one more car on the last day that qualifies, you may get a hot deal if you commit to buy. They may make say £10,000 in bonus payments from the manufacturer by selling that one more car. So, better to sell a car and make a loss of maybe £3k, as they will then make the £10k bonus and will net £7k. A win win.
The deal will come down to how much they may make, how much you are prepared to pay and your negotiating skills. Be prepared to get up and walk out to see if they chase after you. Otherwise nothing stopping you returning a bit later to say you are still interested and would still be prepared to buy depending upon their best and final offer.0 -
A salesman asked you to come back in six weeks to buy a car! I hope he gets the Sack!0

Well done sherlock ...imagine about asking about buying a car on a motoring forum. *sarcasim noted*0 -
Normally a salesman wont let you out the door without a sale. Once you leave the chances of you not coming back is very very high.
So it does seem very odd that he says come back in 6 weeks. Normally they will do anything to get a deposit from you.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Were you wearing shorts and sandles when you popped in? Must have been a reason you failed the ultimate test and were asked to call back, when he was on holiday.0

Maybe the salesman used their judgement are realised OP was not a real buyer and was only interested in a bargain, hence "come back next month".0

Yeah, OP is only one that wants a bargain, especially on here.....0
