Op - as a bloke I have a slightly different take on this. If she is doing it wrong then tell her! She needs to learn, and if you dont tell her then it will drive you mad and explode into a big argument!

Seriouldy though, the post about the willy pointing down is so true. We didnt realise to start with, and it was just squirting up, and out the top. We got on OK with Boots, and used quite a lot of tescos,. The only ones we had a problem with were the Huggies one - my son was alergic to them and kept coming up in a rash. We now use reuseable with our third, and its been a lot easier than I would have expected - TBH I wish we had done it with the others. We use Mother Nature nappies if we are going away and dont want to use the reusables - they are really good, and about the same price as pampers.
  • George nappies from ASDA worked really well for my son and are cheaper than Pampers or Huggies.
Now debtfree except for the mortgage!

lol. OK so maybe I had a sense of humour failure when I read the OP but 3 weeks after the birth of my children I was majorly sleep deprived and still walking like John Wayne, and if I found out my hubbie had posted about me in this way on an internet forum, he would have had no need for birth control for the remainder of his life!

To OP - the age of your baby is irrelevant when buying nappies - it is the size and weight which counts. As to fit and the absorbancy required, this is a matter of trial and error, and what works for one person will not for another. Your poor knackered wife did nothing wrong by trying a new brand, but if you don't want any more mistakes, stick to the two brands which have already proved to work for your child, or club together with some other parents from your ante natal classes to try a range of own-brands and share the costs of a pack each, then go with the one which works best for you. Oh and give your poor wife breakfast in bed in the morning, as I'm sure she will appreciate it!
  • having 3 sons of my own and being a nursery nurse it all boils down to wee!! how much babies wee and at what time varies greatly some wee little and often others do a mammoth wee and obviously nappies cant always cope .......i think with new babies leakages are really common babies are still curled up in those cute foetal positions and nappies arent a second skin(unfortunately) personally my own children only ever had pampers or huggies cos everything else we used was a false economy some things are worth cutting back on others you have to concede defeat and just buy the best .....however i do know of children who were so comfy and dry in own brands so really its just down to the baby in the end!!!
ps i hope you are the one getting up in the night too!! and if your that interested in nappies maybe you should take charge of the changing? im all for joint efforts but your wives grew the baby carried the baby delivered the baby and now your telling her about the nappies!!!!! good job my husband was telling me lol ........
:p dee mum of 3 "before you buy ...think,how many hours have i worked to pay for this?,do i need it? or can i get it r&r in tesco!! hee heee:A
  • 3 weeks old wee a very lot. leakages are inevitable. but seeing as by trial and error, pampers and huggies work better for your little boy, keep on buying them for the time being. if you sign up to boots and tescos parenting clubs and/or pampers and huggies sites you will get vouchers for money off these brands of nappies.

At three weeks old my two boys used to explode out ther nappies all the time - and I'm not just talking wee! Don't think its the nappies fault (although I'm not particularly found of boots ones)

How often are you changing his nappies - at that age I used go change at least 8 nappies a day .
  • My DD is on Boots own brand nappies and I can honestly say we have had no problems whatsoever. We did have problems with Tesco's own brand, i.e severe nappy rash and leakage but since we changed, we've had no problems.

Many years since I used them but as DS1 was born early I had to use boots ones as they were the only ones I could get so small, tbh I think they were better than the other brands.
One day I might be more organised...........

    I've been Money Tipped!
If you are going to try more own brands from supermarkets, use their baby changing rooms. They're often stocked with their own brand nappies, and you can see which fit and absorbancy works for your wee one. Pick a few up and see how you go with them.

I found this way, for free, that Tesco worked a dream, Asda were a nightmare, Papmers were ok, but not worth the extra money but don't get me started on Huggies!

But that was for my kids...your little one will be different.
Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?
  • that was a fab idea id forgotten those if theres none available you can ask at customer services they will get u some as i think sometimes people take several if theyre just left in the baby room!!(cant think who would do that lol)but yes id drfinitely do that as all supermarkets have facilities and some even give u free babyfood too! - in fact i seem to recall years ago setting off on a v long journey and forgetting the nappies and we managed to get to our destination purely using freebies lol!!
