Moving a website to a new URL

but using that code will mean the new site would be indexed by google, also use the google webmaster tools to have the googlebot index new site. have 2 sites with same content will confuse google and even changing the meta tags wont help, infact it will do more harm
That is what the "canonical" tag is good for. Google understands it.0 -
not always, i've had Google try to index old sites, best think is to set up new site and then take down old site leaving just a redirect auto script like i gave earlier
Of course the Google Bot keeps visiting the site, but the canonical URL tells Google, which URL to prefer if it finds duplicate content.
