Wouldn't be to sure about that, public transport is expensive.

for me it would cost £15 a day using public transport, compared to £5 in diesel, and the government wonders why people don't use public transport.

A monthly bus saver ticket in our area is £45, that is cheaper than a months fuel for most people. Surely you can get a monthly pass for a lot less than £15 per day?.

The problem as I explained in the OP is that I am really struggling with public transport because of the physical demands (long walking distances between stops and getting onto a packed bus with crutches trying to mind my ankle etc) so I am dependent on getting taxis which is expensive and will mean my weekly wage will take quite a hit.

So I was wondering if I would be eligible for any sort of disability benefit or something which I could claim for through the company etc to help me cover the costs.
  • Have you asked your employer? If they can't pay, you might be able to negotiate working from home some days instead.

I know how you feel as I had a similar situation a few years ago, the walking on crutches gets a lot easier though as your arms get stronger!

Very unlikely you could. Did you have the accident at work that caused your broken leg. If you went through acsess to work doubt you would get it in that time frame.

Is there any policies at work to help you out as this would be a work agreement.

Do you not have friends at work who could pick you up ans take you in and back or a neighbour, friends or relatives.

Would your work allow you to work from home or drop to p/t until you can manage better with your ankle?

I really don't think there are any benefits that will help.

There's absolutely nothing you can claim, other than appealing to your employer's better nature.

You're only 10 minutes from work - surely you could get someone to pick you up in exchange for some beers or a bottle of wine?

How do the costs of taxis compare to what you were paying for fuel etc?

It may not be costing you as much extra as you think.

Also my Mum broke her wrist she did find as the weeks went on she was more and more confident about what she could do with it and the tenderness/pain did reduce as time went on.

So you may soon be able to do the bus with fewer issues. At this point you could look into weekly tickets to cut the cost down again.

Unless your self employed I can't see who you would claim from, but
Try ringing the local taxi firms and see if they will do you a deal, a 10 minute drive shouldn't cost that much and if you can offer them 10 trips a week for 6-8 weeks that should be enough to get a cheaper deal.
