Painting a fence quote/price (40 panels) ?- what price range to expect ??

for painting a wooden fence, which has many panels by a professional DIY painter, what price range should be expected to be the cost of it, maximum?
Here are the details:
40 panels (well 20 panels, but both sides need to be done)
Might be a 2-3 day job.
Panel sizes are 6 x 6, and a ladder would be needed for this job.
What price ranges would be expected for this job?
and if you are a painter, or had a fence done recently, what maximum price would you suggest not to go above?
Suppose that paint spray machine can be purchased as an alternative to do it yoruself, right?

Morning,
Likely that someone in the know will be along shortly but in respect of the above. I did exactly that. Choosing a warm summer day with little wind, I bought an electric spray gun and set up a 'spray booth' in the corner of my garden and went for it. Quite good results but the overspray from the gun was an issue (even with very low wind speeds). The booth I made from plastic sheeting became very messy and was like an ice rink. Much merriment for the family seeing me dance around in my face mask covered head to toe in overspray. Plus side I am still alive so the preserving capabilities of the applied product - that'll be confirmed.
Honestly speaking fence painting should be within the capabilities of most DIYers. I have a spray gun but wouldn't use it again. If you have panels that can be taken out (I fortunately have such panels) an old floor brush to apply the product to the panel (laid on the deck) using a sweeping fashion, is what I will try next. Painting fixed panels by hand – use a brush or maybe one of those pump applicators. Likely to get overspray mind if you use the spray. Take your time and apart from the materials, it's free.
Good luck.0 -
Why are you painting them? Fences are pressure treated wood that needs no painting. They'll look worse for it after the paint starts to wash off and any susequent painting will result in a patchy finish. Plus there's the risk you flick it all over the neighbours side, it dribbles through to their side making theirs look awful etc.0

Just had a quote for a front fence myself for 7 panels, 1.4m high. Ther eis also a gap in the middle for a gate. The will also have to dig out the old fence posts and put in concrete ones and the cost s £2900
I now think it may be cheaper to do it in brick.0 -

Some fences, e.g. Jacksons, are made from pressure-treated wood, but many, like the cheaper ones from DIY sheds, tend to be only dipped in a decorative solution... and their nails rust too.
I agree, a good pressure-treated fence will weather nicely and last at least 25 years. The rest will fall apart long before that, whether 'painted' or not.0 -
I used Protek fence stain after somebody on here recommended it. It is easier to apply than paint and you just need a big brush to slap it on. I would say 15 mins per panel side to do and looks great. Paint will look awful after a while.Je suis sabot...0

It won't be cheaper in brick. I did seven panels last summer with absolute top quality panels, posts and gravel boards. With a day's kango hire, fence stain and postcrete, it cost about £600. So £2,300 for labour seems excessive.Je suis sabot...0 -

It'd just be cheaper to get a quote from someone not having you on...even with top end expensive panels you would be looking at half that cost, unless of course the quote was for oak fencing or similar but even then it'd be hard to reach that figure.0
