Child Tax Rebate on Flights

Hi, can anyone clarify this for me? I am flying in August to the states with American Airlines. I have been charged APD for my 2 year old son. I believe I am entitled to a refund of this APD due to the change in government legislation but American Airlines are not being very helpful. I spent an hour on the phone to them today as they kept saying they didn't think I was entitled as they are only honouring it for future bookings. I am pretty sure this isn't right but I am looking for clarification before I take this further.

TIA

  • I have problems with Norwegian airlines ... will not reply to messages. Need refund for 2 children
  • I have a flight booked with Jet 2 in May with my 4 year old grand daughter this is the reply I had from them:
I can see that you booked this flight In February 2015, the APD child tax was abolished at the start of 2015 so you will not have paid this on your flights that you booked. As a result of this, you are not entitled to a refund.
As I now completed my booking I can't see the breakdown so not sure if I paid it or not I did say I thought it was stopping on May 1st this was their reply
It was stopped at the beginning of the year, if you were due a refund, the tab would have appeared when you entered the passport details, I can also see on my system that you are not due a refund for the APD as its not been paid for with these flights.

  • This is my first post, so i hope i am posting in the correct place. I booked in october 14 for flights in August 15, our party includes 3 kids under 12 (also trans-atlantic flights). I recently contacted holiday genie who we booked out AA flights with, this is their response, it doesn't seem right to me, i should be grateful if anyone in the know can anyone help me out, many thanks.

I have been in touch with American Airlines and There is no Refund available on Child taxes.

Only Tickets issued after 05 December 2014 qualify for any refunds on child taxes.

Your tickets were issued on 13 Oct 2014.

They are wrong, show them this link which explains to travel agents how to process the refund.
