You're links help to easily remove the problem but I keep getting updated again so that the problem comes back, can't I stop it completely?

I'm sure others have experienced this too.

Sorry, I need to update the first post. If you 'hide' the update it will not be re-applied.
(I have mainly been monitoring the Bleeping Computer thread that I linked (having contributed to it).)

Incidentally, still no new information from Microsoft.

Text looks like PSdfGAS.jpgto me so thank you for this post! That's the last time I'm letting my laptop install updates and then shut itself down. It decided to install 15 so I think I'll wipe them all off and then see which ones I actually need.

You could, but it won't be easy to work out: that's what Windows Update does for you!
(The faulty update in question applies to every version of Windows from XP forward, and comprises five separate issues that vary in severity according to which OS it is.)

OK. I have re-written my original posting. (Jump to post #1)
It now points to a thread on another site with full instructions for uninstalling the faulty update... that is, if you are prepared to risk leaving your computer open to the resulting security vulnerability.

Microsoft have now released an additional update that (appears to) fix the font problem.
I have installed it, and my Courier fonts are back to normal, so it's looking good.

I will update the original post (again) to point to the new procedure. (Jump to post #1)
