Are you sure you want the TV at that height above the floor?

Ideally the centre of a TV should be at eye level or slightly below when you are seated in the normal viewing position.

Any higher than that can cause neck strain as you are constantly looking upwards slightly.

Try sitting in your normal TV viewing position and stare at something on the wall at the height you plan for your TV for a while and you might see what I mean.

Is it really too high? Centre of TV is approximately 130cm from floor...
Based on a sofa seat height of 45cm it'll line up something like this:

    Not good?? :o
  • Did my new install in December. The centre of my TV is 127cm above the floor.
I took the whole room back to bear brick so I fitted a cupboard to the wall then built a false wall around it before the room was plastered so that I could get the TV flush mounted.
I fitted my sockets inside the cupboard and just ran the cables up to the TV through the top of the cupboard and then up in the false wall.

I've got the following cables in the bundle.
    TV Power cable.
    Ariel Cable.
    Network Cable.
    Component cables for Wii.
    HDMI cable for Recorder.
    HDMI cable to soundbar.
With the way it is done it is dead easy to add additional cables if needed.
With what you are planning I'd be looking at fitting a back board to run the cables behind. If you make it removeable it is then futureproof.

I used a full motion bracket so that the TV can be pulled out of the wall and rotated if needed and then pushed back flush.

Happy to help if I can.

    Dave. :D

That would be a bit too high for me but we are all different.

Many people are perfectly happy with their TV at that height or even much higher.

If it suits you then go for it. I'm just pointing out one possible downside that sometimes gets overlooked. The man in your picture is looking up slightly and many people would find that a strain for long periods.

The centre of my 43 inch TV is about 80cm above floor level which I and my wife find ideal. It is the height that a TV sits at when on almost all of the purpose made TV stands available. I have never seen a stand that is much higher than that. It is also the height an older CRT TV was on its integral stand.

My advice is to give careful consideration to how comfortable it is to sit and watch your TV for long periods rather than what it looks like when it is turned off.

Modern flat screen TVs look very nice and sexy high up on a wall, as often featured in adverts, design magazines etc, but, in my opinion and that of many others, that height can cause some viewing discomfort.

It's a very valid point... 'form follows function' and all that!
In fact as our units are being custom made I might review the height of those cupboards and possibly lower the TV a bit.

davybulls suggestion is what I was suggesting with the padding out the alcove - don't need to be so discreet and confusing with the wiring aspect.. and the recessed nature makes the tv flush , how that would work with an even bigger tv...
