Pretty much every tariff E.On has launched in the last few months has been cheaper than the one it's replaced so the 'discounted' v15 tariff merely followed the trend. This has to be the first E.On tariff in quite a while that is an outright increase in cost.

+23% in my case if I was silly enough to change tariffs, and I am a relatively low energy user. It would seem that v14 and v15 prices were a temporary response to group switches. V16 is so far down my comparative list of 'best buys' I just wonder what the take up will be?

I'm quite surprised to see the price has gone up.

I've switched onto v15 which seemed like a good deal. Now it seems so even more when I see v16.

Looked at v15 last week and it would have cost me about £60 per month. Got a quote today of £74 on v16. They must be joking.

So much for cutting energy prices!

My experience with the Eon MSE I collective switch was that having paid the arranged £84.50 for the first month and following the submission of one meter reading, Eon decided that a 25% increase in the DD was advisable to stay on track until December 2015. How can this be the case when the six weeks usage they had recorded are in the period of heaviest usage and they had accurate consumption figures from my last supplier for the whole 12 month period prior to the switch. These obviously included BOTH heavy and light usage periods. This is going to be the inevitable outcome of switching during the months of heaviest usage when the monthly DD is always going to fall short for several months of the actual usage. However, NEVER, EVER allow these companies to estimate your usage, feed them frequent actual meter readings and don't be bullied into increasing your DD until Spring and Summer usages kick in.

Hi Goldfishman and welcome to the Forums.

You're spot on about the importance of giving us frequent meter readings. This is the best way to keep accounts accurate. Thought it might help if I posted a bit of information about our payment arrangements.

With Monthly Direct Debits, payments are spread evenly over 12 months. The aim is for accounts to have as close to a zero balance as possible by the time of the annual review. To help, we'll review accounts periodically. These reviews are based on past usage and current prices. For quarterly customers, we'll only change payments at the 6 and 12 month reviews. At other times, we'll let you know what we think the payments should be but leave it up to you to make any alterations.

With a change of supplier, particularly those that came over before faster switching was put in place in January, we often receive the meter reading history towards the end of the switch. Sometimes, the Direct Debit would already have been set up. This can lead to a proposed change once we receive the full details. Not saying this was the case here but I've known it happen.

If you're registered with our website, there's a tool on there to give you more control over these payments. It's called the Direct Debit Manager and comes in handy should circumstances change. Provided the account is billed up to the latest meter readings, payments can be changed by up to 20 per cent up or down. By up to 5 per cent up or down without readings. Before putting the change through, we'll let you know by how much the account will be in credit/debit if the new amount is confirmed but usage doesn't alter accordingly.

Hope this is of interest Goldfishman. Let me know if you need any more details as happy to help.

I switched to Eon under the auspices of the Eon MSE I collective switch in December and what an absolutely negative experience it has been.

They have taken until today to sort out the switch. During the process I telephoned repeatedly and talked to between 5-6 different staff members. I received repeated promises that the switch was imminent and that they would phone me to confirm this, but they never phoned back.

The bottom line is that during this process the V15 became available. I tried over the weeks to switch to this tariff and was subsequently promised that this would happen but it was not the case.

With the expiry of V15 on the 10th February I tried on the 6th and the 9th to finalise this tariff. I was told today after much persistence that the glitches in the transfer had been sorted but that I could not have version 15. In the event a sales person offered V16 without explaining how detrimentally poor it was. I worked this out during the conversation. In effect I was going to be almost £200 pa worse off than V12 which I was put on initially!!!

I have changed suppliers a number of times over the years and this has been my worst experience ever. I am still not confident that my supply has been properly taken over.

I absolutely would not recommend EON.

    Hi Leblanc

I'm really sorry about the difficulties you had switching to us. I've replied to a similar post from you on another thread. It's at the link below (post 207).

I totally agree with this - always give regular meter readings. With Scottish Power I can adjust my DD payments via my account online. Not sure if you can with EON?

Hi Puffin2014 and welcome to the Forums.

Certainly can. It's through a tool called the Direct Debit Manager. Customers registered with our website can take more control of their payment arrangements including changing the monthly amounts. Comes in handy should circumstances change.

As per my post above in reply to Goldfishman, provided accounts are billed up to the latest meter readings, payments can be changed by up to 20 per cent up or down. By up to 5 per cent up or down without readings.

Before putting the change through, we'll let customers know by how much we anticipate an account will be in credit/debit if the new amount is confirmed but usage doesn't alter accordingly.

Hope this is of interest Puffin2014.

I have just run my projected consumption through a variety of comparison websites and found that the differences between E.oN's versions 14 and 16 are as follows:

v14 Annual Projected Cost - £699 per annum

v16 Annual Projected Cost - £860 per annum

I thought initially that this was because the 'system' was defaulting to average consumption because E.oN's own site gives a calculation followed by an Illustrative Comparison. I have now extracted the unit price per kWh and feed them into my spreadsheet (comparing the tariff information on E.oN's site to 2 switching sites)

Electricity has increased from 11.025p to 13.713p per kWH (+24%)

Gas has increased from 3.102p to 4.039p per kWh (+30%)

    Standing Charges remained unchanged.

    Am I missing something?

Strange. I'm on v14 and some of my prices are different to yours!
I'm paying 11.508p/kWh for elec and 3.369p/kWh for gas.
    It's not a VAT at 5% thing.
