Wednesday 11 February - What small DFW things will you do today?

Oh no Foxgloves sorry to hear you feel poorly. Go steady.
JoJo - How old are your children and do you give them pocket money? My son is 6 and I have found since we implemented pocket money, he has been much more understanding about helping out around the home, including making his bed, and he is actually the light police in our house. Its just a thought, but I think sometimes money, and the act of saving it, is so abstract to children (and some adults!)
Tash - I like that 'Watchful Wednsday' has a great ring to it
MMM - Hope you perk up, its horrible waking up tired and having to go to work.
Dawn - That will be nice to see your other granddaughter.
Twiggy - Thanks for that lovely image
Hope everyone else is ok, doing good etc. Maria - Have you improved?
Well me today.
1. Walked to lewisham for NHS dentist check up. Took me an hour just under actually, to do that, then walked back via Aldi.
2. In Aldi spent £12.56 which makes my spend this week so far £25 on food and I dont think we need anything else. I do think Aldi is a tad more expensive than Lidl, but dont shop in either enough yet to say that with empirical evidence. What do other cheap shoppers think on that?
3. At home have just recieved my John Lewis free cake and coffee voucher, wasnt sure I'd be included this time around but I did buy some vouchers at xmas for the class present so that probably helped.
4. Have tidied around, planned tonights meal, going to be sausage & veg pasta with cheese. Easy & quick, will try to plan it so Mr B can take leftovers tommorow.
5. Checked banking. All ok.
6. Supanet rang & have agreed that I will pay the balance off on pay day, which is good of them really as I suppose they are within their rights to demand it now as we are no longer a customer. I can offset the £129 against our Council Tax of £136 not being due.
7. Thinking about it, may ask BT if I can change our payment date. They want £92 this month by the 15th, as it includes the £50 reconnection fee. But if I asked to move it to the 27th wonder if they would.....
8. Need to pack sons after school snacks in a bit. It was interesting having his tyre sorted out yesterday by an independent bike shop. We bought his much loved christmas bike from Toys R Us for £75. Basically the bike shop said its crap and isnt fit for purpose....oh....so my husband is now in discussions with TRU to see what they will give us. Fair enough the bike is the sort of take to the park at weekends jobber not cycle 8 miles per day bike. But it shouldnt be coming apart after a month.
9. Mr B has next week off work to help sort some important work out. So we are talking about how to max the time off as it involves paying for car hire for certain days to transport tools around. Looking at best deals with Zipcar.
10. Throughly enjoyed first two eps of Better Call Saul last night for free on netflix. And son has been loving the selection of cartoons. Really good value for £6 a month, but especially free for 1 month
Have a good day all.

I recently shopped in Aldi for the first time as I had a £5 off £40 spend voucher. I'm not good enough to know the exact prices of things but I know I wonderful lady who does - my mum! I gave her my receipt to look at and she thought that Aldi worked out about 10p cheaper on a £40 shop! Obviously she doesn't know the exact price of everything - but she's pretty good! So overall I don't think there's much in it.
Hope that helps!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
Current debt - £5,555.00
Total paid off - £10,045.89 (64% paid off)0 -

Hi my children are 1 and half and 5. Funny enough I was thinking today if I should start giving the oldest pocket money. More of a way of educating about money. I already explain about different in prices ie if we buy .20p crisps instead of .75p crisp we could buy 2 for the same price and still have some penny's over. Walking home instead of taxi saves us £4, with the £4 you could buy x amount off this. But I like her to have some spends and save a little each week.
Chore wise though there very good. Helping out is the normal. The little one puts things in bin, toys in box, gets nappies from cupboard and puts washing in and out of dryer. Sometimes a little long winded but stops her destroying the house. The older was does loads, keeps her bedroom tidy, does full living room tidy and lots more.
The saving energy is a new thing I'm doing really, so will take time to educate. But getting there!
I really want them to have a good start I adult life with good habits already formed xxxDebt Remaing £315 :jBreath out the past, Breath in the futureBig Dreams Start Small0 -
Well today's weekly shopping trip has been successfully. Less than £20 spent on food etc as a nice stock in and was able to get a couple of treats in. Everything had a indivual target and all within budget (clothes/Xmas/shopping/spends/save etc) Amount left over going into envelopes to save towards another week etc creating good shopping habits going forward. Two items I didn't manage to get today but there be ok for next week.
Feeling good getting organised and keeping spending within budgets xxDebt Remaing £315 :jBreath out the past, Breath in the futureBig Dreams Start Small0 -
Twiggy -thanks that's handy. I'm sure your mum is right. Lidl is closer so I do use it more than Aldi. I've done all my shopping between the two of them this month with 1 trip to sains and 1 to Mr T purely for proximity. It has definately helped my budget. Sounds silly but the pence really add up across a shop. Whereas a £40 shop in sains is doable for a week it's hard. Lidl is easy and I can include treats as Jo Jo says.
Jo Jo - we told ours he could have £1 a week or £6 a month. Guess which he choseI find he is much more conservative with his own funds as well. Your girls sound lovely and super helpful.
Maths -are you debt free? Was trying to work it out from your sig. If so you should get the debt free badge on your profile. Can't wait to wear mine with honor (are some point)" Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Today hasn't been a good day debt busting day for me.
I did eat breakfast from my work stores and took in leftovers for lunch but my pears have gone rotten while I've been off sick and the work fruit box was empty so I bought some carrot and sultana cake from the Wednesday cake trolley. It was lovely though.
This evening DH is rehearsing and I bought a kebab and chips for DS and I to share so more expense but well worth it as DS is poorly and it put a smile on his face.
I had to cancel DSs driving lesson as he's not well and emailed the instructor to ask that, now his block booking that was bought for his birthday is nearly finished, could he now just do one hour lessons intepad of two. He told me that it's not time or cost effective for him to do one hour lessons and if that's what we want we should find another instructor.
My first thought was to tell him to shove his lessons where the sun don't shine but I've spoken to DS and he likes him so will stick with it. At least once DS has passed his test maybe we can consider other areas to move to but I'm clearly in the wrong job, no wonder the instructor could afford to take a month off at Christmas,Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
