Can someone help me please

Hi there, I was wondering if someone could please give me some advise if they've been in a similar situation. Here's my problem.
The bank is HSBC
Basically it all started about 2 years ago I noticed silly charges being added to my account. £30 on month £20 the next £80 another month etc. then I got a letter saying I was getting £80 charges. This had to stop I immediately switched my wages to be paid into my wives account. (I only get paid aprox £200 a week) I then stood and watched this £80 charge send me £285 overdrawn. I had no overdraft. I tried contacting them a few times and also noticed some of these charges were for their advance premiere account. I took this out several years ago and cancelled it. They had restarted it several months later without my consent. I sent letters and spoke to them on the phone. They then sold the debt on to a collection agency and sent the letter to and old address of mine (luckily I know the person) I thought they completely messed me around and screwed me over. I now have no bank account, can't get one. They didn't seem to care when I told them my wive was on maternity and we were struggling. These charges are phenomenal. I could understand if we missed the odd bill and incurred the odd charge, but we changed all the bills over to my wives account and still incurred massive charges. I'm completely stuck with no bank account, I have no choice but to be pay this default off which will last of my file for 7 years. It's the only default I have on their as I'm normally very good with money in the respect of not having any loans or credit cards etc. is there anything I can do about these charges and default. Anything at all. Thanks

What were the charges for?Basically it all started about 2 years ago I noticed silly charges being added to my account. £30 on month £20 the next £80 another month etc. then I got a letter saying I was getting £80 charges.
Normally a bank notifies you about the charges in advance and explains them.
All charges have to be explained. This had to stop I immediately switched my wages to be paid into my wives account. Wrong charges have to be cancelled and refunded.
Instead of "standing and watching" you should have been acting.
If you really want to sort this out, the only way is to follow the formal complaints procedure. Forget about the phone and do everything in writing, then take the case to the FOS if needed. If you win the case, make sure that your credit files get corrected accordingly by the bank.

If the charges caused you financial distress you should have contacted the bank and discussed this with them. Possibly, you can claim some charges back on this grounds: Bank Charges Reclaiming0 -
