Appeal to DVLA
Hi guys,
I'm new to this so not sure if I'm posting in the right forum, please correct me if I'm in the wrong place
I'm fairly new to when it comes to buying and selling cars and I didn't have anyone to ask for advice at the time. I sold my car in exchange for another one, but I did not notify the DVLA of selling it straight away, as the chap I sold it to said he'll sort all the paperwork. He clearly didn't as I got a letter start of October, saying my tax needs renewing for that vehicle. I contacted the DVLA straight away and they told me not to worry about the fine - all they need from me is a form (I can't even remember which one it was so long ago!) and the letter attached and it will all be okay. So I sent this off, but at the start of Feb I have now received a notice from a debt collection agency claiming that I now owe the DVLA £80!
When contacting the DVLA, they've told me to appeal, but before going through all that (also bearing in mind I haven't got very fine tuned dates and details of when, where and who I sold my car to) I wanted to check if it's worth appealing?
I'm now aware it's my responsibility to send the paperwork off, but I'm not sure how it's gone from £40 to £80 without any notification
Also the person I spoke to from DVLA said that I can pretty much forget about the fine once I send the form off!
Most importantly, how do I now go about telling them that the vehicle doesn't belong to me if I don't have a logbook OR the vehicle?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Appeal. You admitted that you didnt so they are unlikely to listen to any appeal where you admit guilt.
Always worth trying, But have your £80 ready.
Write to them and state you sold the vehicle but the buyer took the paperwork by mistake. Put as much detail about the vehicle as possible.
